Not sure why any ISU fan would think that.

Because for 10 years he has said so while turning down probably 10-15 other college jobs and at least two NFL jobs.

So he’s worth $10MM a year? That seems high. He’s good, but I don’t think top 10 pay good.

We shall see if he goes. Pedo State has been rumored to be near done several times.

Zero reason it should of taken Penn St this long to hire Campbell.

They obviously didn’t want him and didn’t contact his agent until they were forced to.

Zero chance he has turned this many jobs down that would be considered a step up from ISU. That is laughable.

Low energy hire, he's been ok at ISU but nothing special.

Off the top of my head (confirmed discussions per Matt Campbell and various sources):

NFL:

Chicago Bear
Detroit Lions

College:

UCLA
Arkansas
Kansas State
Ohio State
Washington
North Carolina
West Virginia
Purdue
UCF
A&M

There are more but that’s just what I recall over the last 3-4 or so years.

Don’t believe everything you hear. I doubt many of those were very serious at all.

Plus not many of those would be considered a step up from ISU at least not enough to leave a comfortable gig for.

Is someone finally going to pull him out of Ames? . Guy has been rumored for every available job in the coaching market for 8 years.

Apparently he was waiting on James Franklin to get fired

no, he's just finally had it with the ISU AD and a great job opened up and was still open after the season when he prefers to discuss jobs.

kind of a perfect storm here.

he was 100% only leaving for OSU or ND, but the situation with the AD got bad enough to where the PSU situation became extremely attractive, especially with their desperation now.

He better be given some grace because he's going into a poor situation that the administration directly caused.

I don’t see why everyone thinks this is some home run hire. Dude has interview for every big coaching job the last 6 years and has never gotten any of them

He's had quite a few offers and has turned them down.

5-19 from ISU won a Natty at Auburn.

Coaches before Matt Campbell:

Jim Walden: 28-57-3
Dan McCarney: 56-85
Gene Chizik: 5-19
Paul Rhoads: 32-55

Combined, going back to 1987 those guys were 121-216-3

Campbell going 72-55, including the rebuilding year when he took over going 3-9, is damn impressive. It is HARD to win in Ames.

Most of the names on that list were me “just hearing” they have been acknowledge by Campbell or those in his circle.

Matt has had better opportunities than Pedophile State and passed. That’s the bottom line. Will he this time? We shall see.

Im not like others. Never really saw the hype as a college coach. Dude goes 7-6 like 60% of the time. Him and PJ Fleck have always seemed overhyped to me.

Penn St will win 8-9 games a year going forward. Boring azz hire. He's a big name and respected so others will call it a good hire, but if you fired Franklin for going 11-2 every year, hiring Campbell makes no fricking sense at all.

Agree but a good hire in the end. A better fit than the BYU coach imo
It's James Franklin minus the recruiting chops. Damn man Sitake has done a way better job the last 6 years compared to Campbell.

Maybe, but this hire didn’t occur in a vacuum. In an otherwise disastrous coaching search, Matt Campbell is a relatively satisfactory conclusion.

He’s going to bring the tight end and some DBs with him as an extra bonus to PSU. Former players for him are talking about buying season tickets
