I think it's pretty easy to make an argument that the OC search has had significant problems.

However, even if you accept that things have been going on behind he scenes, it's impossible to argue that it hasn't been poorly handled by Orgeron from a PR standpoint.

He has a staff to help him with this. I don't really understand how they haven't been out in front of this setting expectations for the fan base and, just as importantly, for the recruits.

The same uncertainty that exists in the fan base can be seen in comments from prospective recruits. This has been a debacle from a PR standpoint. It only stands to reason that they aren't addressing it because the reality is as bad as it seems. True or not, it's reasonable to come to that conclusion given the lack of information.

Orgeron seems to be struggling with this aspect of the job.

He said an OC wouldn't be named until after the bowl game. I don't think the fans are owed a daily update about who they are talking to and who they aren't.

That PR section must have accidentally ripped out of the binder.

Much like the type of offense he said he would like to run at first, he needs to change that view/stance because he isn't gonna get his 2 QB commits back if he waits that long

O accomplished his objective: getting the job.

I am seriously doubting now that he even thought about the next steps toward managing the program. Apparently he put all his time and effort into securing the job, and neglected to start figuring out how he was actually going to DO the job once he got it.

It's not about what the fans are owed. It's about the best interest of the program.

If you don't think that there is a significant negative view of the program as a result of the lack of certainty, then we're just going to have to disagree.

Even if that was and still is the plan, Orgeron should have been working to paint as positive a picture as he can. Instead, he's giving his critics ammunition to continue to bash the program and his ability to run it.

True or not, this is the common perception:

* A main fixture in Orgeron's plan was to hire Kiffin
* He proposed it in his meeting with Alleva that impressed him enough to get hired.
* Unbeknownst to Orgeron, Kiffin was going to take ANY head coaching job available.
* Weeks after being a fairly unpopular hire, Orgeron is sititng it square 1 trying to find an OC.
* A recruit has de-committed and publicly stated that he doesn't know who the coordinator will be or what scheme will be run.

I'm not sure allowing that image to persist can be logically defended.

He's proven to be a TERRIBLE program manager and CEO.

He has had one shot at it and it was historically bad.

And remember, THIS is the new and improved version of Coach O.

The problem is that waiting until after the bowl was a TERRIBLE decision. We have a defensive identity to sell recruits on with Aranda now locked down. We don't have anything resembling one on offense. The only known is the unknown. The likelyhood that we will run anything close to what we have seen the last few years is basically 0. Add to this the fact that O hasn't clarified whether Juluke or Craig will be part of the staff going forward, and you have a massive vacuum on offense. Opposing coaches are having an easy time selling our recruits and targets on this uncertainty.

The ONLY way to stem this tide is to make the hire now, make the necessary staff changes, and clarify the messaging of what will be happening on offense going forward. If O keeps stalling, Narcisse will be gone as an EE, and it may be too late to re-establish momentum.

Seems like the new OC should've been here already recruiting and getting to know his team during bowl practices. It's fine I guess if the new OC is currently on the job and needs to wait, but if that's the case then our QB recruits need to know this. Based on the recent HC search I think it's understandable to assume the OC search hasn't been much of a search and all the eggs were in the Kiffin basket

Which just confirms the OP. Ed O is a terrible manager if he thinks this would fly

This is where experience as an interim coach tells an AD nothing about a person's ability to run a multimillion dollar business.

His experience at Ole miss did though.

Pretty much. At the least, there was no good that could come of announcing it. You think a QB prospect wants to hear that you're putting the offense on the back burner?

I think this could be handled by an effective leader. Fans and recruits need to be sold that. All is well and that LSU is going to make a great hire. Remember, we are coming from a situation that couldn't be worse. It should be an easy sell.

Instead, the narrative is a negative one.

At present he looks like buffoon.
The whole Kiffin/Tua bullshite looks naive at best and inept at worst.

I still believe he is a step up from Miles but that is a low bar.

I think hes incapable of doing it. His record at Ole Miss was that bad, for a reason

LSU is so screwed

I don't think he was a step up from Miles in any way except he'll not meddle in the offense. And I guess that's a big deal.
