I created a thread stating it would be advantageous for the timing if OU would lose a game, and got DV to oblivion. It just makes sense.

Not necessarily. If Riley was the big fish the whole time and the fallback option is a coach who will take the job whenever it's offered, Woodward can wait as long as needed on LR.

Making the playoffs doesn't really have a gigantic impact on the timeline. The only significant impact is the championship game. The first playoff game is really not much different than just making one of the NY6 bowls, which you would assume they would be in if they missed the playoffs. If Riley is the guy Woodward wants, then waiting the extra time will be fine, but they would likely make at least an announcement ahead of time to secure recruiting.

Someone stated in another thread that Woodward would only be sacrificing the early signing period sort of. He said Woodward is looking for a long term hire and that LSU would still get a lot of signatures on early signing day. Those who are on the fence would wait for hire and sign in February.

Sounds pretty good to me.

The next coaching hire is way more important than this year's recruiting class

without this recruiting class, the new coach really doesnt stand a chance long term

Many of you act like you've never heard of the transfer portal. You also seem to think that all of these recruits are automatically glued to the current HC - Orgeron. Has it ever occurred to you that many of these recruits are committed to the school, no matter the coach? Lincoln Riley would have use back to 10 wins in year 1.

So, what you’re saying is, they have an agreement, but if they make the playoff he isn’t coming?? Not buying it.

Great logic. Pass on a possible 10 year home run hire because the 2022 recruiting class MAY slightly suffer. Some of you I swear are brain dead.

I think Woodward would wait, but that would create a circus in Norman as they’re preparing for a playoff game.

The longer LSU goes into December without hiring a coach, then the more obvious it’s going to be Riley.
