yeah, that's what i hypothesized last night. still others are reporting tolbert isn't coming and gonzales is his replacement.

Is it possible Tolbert has something in his contract keeping him from entertaining offers during the NFL season? That would maybe explain the abrubt end for now.
Remember, Miles could always takeover the oline duties of stud leaves to clear rom for a QB coach.

We’re certainly in “Random Speculation Land” and I have no source. But no reputable source has said Tolbert is out, just rumor. We also know that NFL coaches usually can’t leave in midseason and this is an important recruiting time, so we snapped up a WR coach to recruit now. We also know Tolbert is two years from his NFL pension. Doesn’t it make sense to entice him to come back to the NCAA, he needs a promotion not a lateral move? Make him the OC after the NFL season and we lose Tolbert for this critical period of recruiting when we can most afford the loss.

I think it's highly likely that is the case. It's been said all along that Miles wouldn't want to let go of coordinators before the bowl bonuses unless they willingly left like Porter or McCarthy.
"Pass-Game coordinator" sounds like code for OC in waiting. Crowton will probably have a few options lined up at season's end like Malveto. It's perfectly in line with the way Miles does it, even if it sounds like a plot from Arrested Development.

I like the idea and want to know how many beers it took to conjure, but think in the end, it is too elaborate for Miles and we find out Tolbert fell through and Crowton stays for another agonizing year

Yeah I think Crowton stays, but gets full control of the playcalling.

And while I agree with Baloo tha it seems logical that the guy with 20 years of coaching under his belt and coming from the NFL would be the OC, I think that BG being brought in may signal a change to the all out spread.
Regardless, this is an interesting turn of events. I just don't see BG as the WR coach going into next season for some reason...with or without Tolbert.
Didn't a recruit supposedly say BG informed him he'd be the OC at LSU? If there is a shuffle planned, we'll hear about it from a recruit I'd imagine.

I believe MTT2893 is on the f*ckin money with this hypothesis. I think Stud goes to Memphis as rumored and Miles coaches O-line, or brings in Chris Scelfo. Brings in a QB coach only if Miles really wants to coach O-line.

Nice theory! We're all hoping for some big changes but giving Gonzales the OC job without any OC experience would be a pretty big leap of faith for a major college program.

i think you and lane kiffin have something in common. ya'll both like to make stuff up to apperar cerebral. the reason gonzales is involved is that tolbert said no. it's really pretty simple.

LSU GD.. i said it was very unlikely but you don't find it fishy at all that Tolbert "backed out" the day after he said yes? I'm just searching for answers here..
