According to a tweet from Dan Mullen last night, he will not be the next coach at Syracuse.

Maybe not the worst thing.

He likely would have done fine there, but really not the gamechanger that some Cuse fans might have thought he would be.

Yeah, he wasn't on my radar as an option before this past weekend, so I was never really invested. I think they'll hire the Holy Cross coach Bob Chesney. His name has consistently been at or near the top of the candidate list. Fran Brown from Georgia has been the latest rumor but outside of being an excellent recruiter, I'm not sold on him.

Man, over the past 25 years that job has gone down the crapper.

They used to be a good watch back in the day. Same for Illinois.

Recruiting rankings be damned, Mullen was really great at identifying talent while he was at State.

There's been a big NIL push behind the scenes lately from former players

Who? Jim Brown died.

McNabb and Harrison are both worth about $30 Mil each as well. Freeney is only worth about $5 Mil. Csonka is worth about $2 mil. I'm running out of Syracuse greats to lust here and I'm not seeing a big pool of nil donations.

According to who? Those stupid net worth websites? He made close to $100 million in his career.

No one gets less from more like Dan Mullen

False at State. Most of our best players were 3-star and diamonds in the rough. Look what he did with Chris Relf

quote:

Did everything he could to not play Dak at MSU, and was forced to play him after the starter got hurt, even though Dak was better, but Mullen had already decided to play the other guy and sit Dak another year. Did the same in Gainesville and did everything he could to not play Trask.

One was an in-state Sr and Dak was a RS Fresh. Mullen always favored seniority. Dak came in after Russell got hurt. Dak started the next season, not another year.

quote:

he didn't develop Dak.

He absolutely did. Dak 1st season as a starter he was the prototypical Urban style QB runner/passer. His Jr season, he worked on his pocket style QB throwing more to get Dak ready for the next level.

quote:

in the regular season he has never won a game against a ranked opponent when his team was ranked higher. In other words, when he has the better team, he loses every single time when facing a ranked opponent

That was his knock at State his first few years. He never had an upset until his 2014 season.

quote:

He owes everything to Urban Meyer. Mullen has never and will never build anything or be a true leader. Meyer developed the spread option and was the real brain child for what happened at Bowling Green, Utah, then UF. Mullen was merely along for the ride.

Not according to Urban. Also, Mullen brought Brian Johnson as his QB coach/OC at State and UF. Let me guess, Johnson owes it all to Urban too as he's killing now as Philly's OC with Hurts.

Are you under the impression that the only former players that have a vested interest in football and will donate to the NIL pot have to be retired NFL players?
