And there is word that the deal is done. Lincoln Riley realizes he needs a defense and Ohio State doesn’t seem to be fighting to keep Grinch. It’s a very interesting start to the offseason for Ohio State.

Grinch didn't seem to be a good addition to OSU defensive staff, based on this year's performance compared to last year

I wouldn't touch him with a 39 1/2 foot pole.

Well it was mainly the Schiano show. What he did to the WSU unit was impressive.
Yeah this year was terrible, but hard to tell how much hand he had on it. Schiani was on his way to Tenn, and he'd have had full reigns.

Grinch was Schiano's replacement. But the Tennessee HC job fell thru. OSU was stuck with 2 DC's. One was gone at the end of the '18 season even if Meyer stayed, IMO.

Davis (LBs) looks like the next to go.

Grinch would be a really good hire.

Wait a damn minute here. You mean to tell me your coach had a substandard unit on one side of the ball and he’s going after a highly regarded assistant to coach that side of the ball??

That’s incredibly risky but hey...good luck man

What an underwhelming hire. OU fans were saying they were going to make a home run hire and steal the Bama DC or someone similar

I wouldn’t say they did that

I don’t think OSU can pull Bama DC away since it’s nick Saban. How many Dc’s have Bama had and they basically have run the same Defensive plays between all them. What is the common denominator in this equation.

I haven't read or heard a word about Ohio State going after the Alabama DC.

And it looks like it's official.

BREAKING: #OhioState’s Alex Grinch is expected to become the next defensive coordinator at #OU, per source. He was a semifinalist for the 2017 Broyles Award. Grinch worked wonders at WAZZU turning a defense ranked outside the top 100 into one ranked No. 34 by the time he left WSU

I think the dude can coach. I just don’t know how much he moves the needle in recruiting.

That's right where my thinking is as well.

He took the Wazzu defense from outside the top 100 to number 34. If OU has the 34th best defense in the country this year, we don't lose a game.

Riley is an elite recruiter. If Grinch isn't on board, I don't think his stay will last long (unless the result on the field is undeniable).

There is only so much you can scheme up less talented players. There is still a talent deficiency there.
