Thanks O for digging your own grave. Give him a short deal with small buyout. He won’t make it long here.

Nobody knows how any of the new hires will pan out. Just cross your fingers that they strike gold like they did with Brady.

This information is already public.

Derek Mason is the leading choice right now. I have heard this name for the last few weeks.

I’m not mad about it.

Who else have you heard?

I’d like to see LSU make a run at
Marcus freeman
Jim Leonard
Patrick toney
Brad White
Ilaisa Tuiaki
Tommy Thigpen

I’m not understanding the interest in Nielsen (Saints DL coach). What has he done to be considered a top DC?

Because he hasn’t been a dc against modern offenses. His vandy D got worse once the spread came to the sec.

Everyone including me said oh yay bo was awesome 05-07 and look how he turned out vs the spread.

Mason is a bad hire based off recent history

You could say the same about Odom based on his time at Mizzou. He hadn’t been a DC for a few years and his last two Ds there weren’t very good. Has it prevented him from being a good DC at Arkansas this year, including against spread offenses? They were one of the few to legitimately slow down Ole Miss this year. Would you hire him today if he were available?

I’ll give you that Mason as a DC vs the spread is an unknown. But he has a damn good track record as a coordinator and he runs the kind of multiple front scheme with disguised looks that should match up well.

ETA: Mason vs the spread isn’t completely unknown. He did a good job vs Oregon and Chip Kelly. I know things have evolved, but it’s not like the man has never seen the spread as a DC. He also faced Sark’s teams at Washington.

Looks like a guy who could be an interim if things don’t work out with CEO. Same thoughts about them hiring Pelini. Need young hungry blood that stays up all night working on scheme.

Has usc ties, I’m sure O likes that.

Honestly though saints DL has been lights out and they run a 4 man front.

That wasn’t a modern day spread. That was a hurry up option run attack.
