State is making its fifth head coaching hire since 2017.

But they have been to a bowl every season.

An oddity.

SloMo was set up for great success, but couldn't control his players. Mike Leach died. Arnett was a panic hire due to Leach's passing - he was really an interim. This will be the 4th hire since Mullen left.

Slowmo was a terrible fit..get Fisch or Sumrall and State will be markedly improved

Leach situation was tragic but good for them for not accepting being bad. State should have put the interim tag on Arnett and taken this season to do a proper search for the next coach but better late than never.

Considering that over 80 teams "qualify" for a bowl game now every year, some with only 6 wins, it's not that odd anymore.

25 to 30 years ago, yes, a complete oddity. Today, with the bowl games being so watered down, not so much.

What about Sonny Dykes? He might be a good fit for State.

Coach Arnett basically got an interim’s contract. I have no insider knowledge, but as a lifelong MSU supporter, I feel we promoted Arnett in a very difficult situation with Leach’s passing. I think we wanted to try and keep some sort of familiarity for stability during a really tough time. His contract tells me that we weren’t expecting him to be a long term solution. We had to make a change when MACtion Moorhead lost control of the team and couldn’t keep our QB from getting his eye socket pulverized in practice. Mullen quit to go to Florida, Moorhead was in over his head, Leach tragically passed away and Arnett wasn’t ready for that big of a step.
