Cincinnati
None were bad teams. The pessimist says he can't beat those teams (generally) because he isn't a good big game coach. The optimist says he's a great coach, but just can't get the collection of talent at ND (because of admission restrictions) necessary to beat the Alabama's, Clemson's, Georgia's of the world when they are at or close to their best.
Kelly taking the LSU job...while his (then) current team was in the playoff hunt...tells you what HE thinks. That is he has maxed out the performance he can get from his ND talent and feels he needs access to the LSU talent to get the national championship he wants. Assuming he can go out and get that talent he'll get his shot to be proven right.

They changed how they recruited a few years back and it made a big impact on their program. Elston was a big part of this which is why I was hoping we'd get him.

I think I CBK sort of confirmed that his hire was a last minute thing, which kinda confirms that Riley to LSU was indeed a thing until he backed out after USC offered. When literally every single insider is saying the same thing, there has to be some truth to it. Look, I didn’t claim that info as MY info, I was passing it along and I made that clear. It turned out to not be “100%” as I was told. I fell for it, y’all fell for it, every single insider fell for it. Shoot me.
In the end we got a fantastic coach so it’s all irrelevant now.
