He turned out ok.
Tom Herman is still a good coach no matter how many losses Houston has this year. Not saying he's who we get, but he should still be at the top of the list imo.

He played just a wee bit better competition than Herman with far less talent than the teams he played annually - Michigan, Ohio St, Notre Dame and Penn St.

The talent gap between Michigan State and Michigan/Ohio State is not as significant as the talent gap between Houston and Florida State/Oklahoma. So I think that argument does not help you.

Which is why the original point doesn't make sense. It's a level playing field in both conferences to a certain extent.

He had Mich St on the verge of something great, still don't think he could have recruited on the level he has at LSU and Bama especially going up against Michigan every year.
Mich St was actually on probation when he took over that team but he was still highly regarded by NFL teams at Mich St.

Nick Saban can not win without talent advantage. He said he left MSU because he could not beat UM in recruiting.

One and a half years. You've NEVER seen him coach a team he recruited.
He may well end up great. But at this point, you have A VERY small data set to work with

Saban had a lot of high level talent at MSU: Julian Peterson, Flozell Adams, Mushin Muhammad, Derrick Mason, Demetrius Underwood, Renaldo Hill Plaxico Burress etc

His comment about Michigan at Michigan State was more of a bitter shot at MSU fans and administration than an admission of his ability to recruit. He was just being a jerk back then to MSU.
