NFL teams are expected to make formal requests to interview Pat Fitzgerald for their head coaching jobs after Northwestern’s Bowl game, league sources tell ESPN.

Northwestern is screwed if they lose him.

I don’t think he’s going anywhere
I know never say never, but I truly think he’s satisfied right where he’s at

Damn, the Bears would be a great spot for him

Request permission? Why do they do that? I mean.... just say no?

Awesome college coach. Nothing about his team or schemes looks NFL.

It’s a professional courtesy thing. If they said no they still would do it.
For lateral hires on the NFL level they do block teams interviewing all the time. You can block and assistants from interviewing else where unless it’s for a higher position like HC. That’s why you see a lot of teams throwing on an associate HC title for some coordinators. Makes it more difficult to poach them. But that’s a different situation

Ehh his scheme seems to fit his talent levels usually. Seems like a coach who could be a perennial playoff coach but idk if he would ever get you over the top

Hope he says where he is. True college guy

If he doesn't leave for bears job...he's staying at NW. I think that would be the only job he'd even consider

L.O.L. Did anyone watch the OSU/Northwestern game? His shitty offensive philosophy cost them that game. If some team does hire him they'll need to sign Taysom Hill because they'll be running QB runs on 1st and 2nd down all game.

It’s called running a scheme and managing a game. Northwestern has to run a scheme like that because they’re at a MAJOR talent disadvantage every week.

I think he's referring to some of the trick plays they tried running that were total drive killers. I get they were big underdogs this past weekend, but he occasionally gets too cute for his own good.
I went to games where Northwestern lost against Illinois State and Akron because they inexplicably got away from what was working. And they certainly weren't at a talent disadvantage against those teams.

Trick plays aren’t an offensive philosophy.
