Next hot DC name: Tem Lukabu, Boston College

Tem Lukabu
I’m not promoting him for LSU because I’m not sure he’s a big enough name yet. He just completed his first year as defensive coordinator. Improved BC from 100+ in total defense to the 60s in one season.
Played LB and coaches LB, but has coached DL and DB. Former LB coach at Mississippi State.
Has coached under Bob Shoop, Jeff Hafley, Jim O’Neil, Robert Saleh, Bill Sheridan and Greg Schiano.

Well done. These are the types of guys we should be considering instead of the flavors of the month.

Absolutely. He’s one to keep an eye on. Would be home run position coach for LSU today. But unfortunately he’s too far long in his career for that now. Worked under some great defensive minds

It's his first year as a DC...wouldn't that make him, ahem, a flavor of the month?

Nice discovery. Has both SEC & NFL experience.
Wonder if his lack of DC time would hurt his chances?

Not if you're only focusing on names like Mason, Muschamp, Pelini, etc. Give him an interview and see what he has to offer. I'm not saying he should get the job, but conduct a thorough search.

I watched the BC-Clemson game from start to finish. I had never heard of him and I was impressed with his scheme and performance. I believe he gave Clemson its toughest game of the year in a close loss, so I started following him throughout the year.
Very impressive guy. Very smart. Played at Colgate.

How is he not a flavor of the month?

I don’t think he’s a flavor at all. If he was being considered for a bunch of jobs, then perhaps.
He’s just a name for the future.

I think what he’s trying to say is when considering recognizable names like Champ, Mason, Pelini, etc., all were considered good coordinators at one time, just not recently.
The under-the-radar guys haven’t gotten enough recognition to be a “flavor-of-the-month”.

Was he on your radar?

Don't know how involved Hafley is in the D. He's a young hot shot defensive guy.

No but neither was any other flavor of the month before their month

I agree. But you could say the same about Marcus Freeman.

Read on line where he wants to & will be an NFL HC.

He is a rising star. He will be a DC sooner rather than later.
