Im sure JJ will get a fair shot at it, but lets be real here.
At one point this season, JJ had 7 INTs to 3 TDs. every tinme he dropped back to pass, we held our breath waiting for the next INT. Not exactly what you should expect from a 3rd year QB.
Considering JJ was in Crowtons system for 3 years and was still shitting the bed weekly, id be suprised if he learns the new offense and picks up where he left off in the cotton bowl, which is really his only chance.
Mett and JJ will be on equal footing having to learn a new system from scratch, and after seeing 3 years of JJ, my money is on Mett.

JJ probably starts unless Mett makes a 5 star twenty-one gun salute impression during spring and summer camps. Throwing Mett into the SEC play too soon is unfair to him. I do look for Mett to get more playing time than Lee did.
You do realize that Mett would have been Georgia's starting QB in 2010 if not for the arse grabbing incident? We threw JL and JJ into the fire of SEC play too soon because of necessity and they weren't ready.
Mett threw 3 INTs the whole year at JUCO. It's still JUCO, but a lot of recruits throw more than that in a year in HS. And it's not like he's practicing/scrimmaging against a HS defense, he's going up against an SEC defense everyday at practice, albeit not the starters, but they are on scholarship.
It's not going to be about seniority, it's going to be whoever picks up the new playbook, understands best what our offense is going to do, and who the coaches think is ready to start.

JJ is a pocket QB we tried to turn into a runner
i dont' get what you're saying

This 2011 LSU team reminds me a lot of the 2006 Florida team, and I expect the QB position to be handled with a "similar" rotation. (I am not compairing Mett to Tebow! Let me be clear about that).
Much like that 2006 Florida team, Jefferson will likely handle most of the offensive snaps as the starter, just as Leak did. Because Mett is the future QB for this offense, he will see situational playing time.
Of this, I am sure:
JJ + moderate improvement = 2011 LSU Championship run

how many 1st round picks were from that 06 UF defense?

uh, 09 JJ + moderate improvement MIGHT = NC run
2010 JJ + moderate improvement < 09 JJ
and if we do a Leak/ Tebow type deal, I'd hope Mett gets most of the snaps and JJ comes in to run.

Another reason the 2011 LSU team reminds me of the 2006 UF team...championship caliber D.

How many might there be from ours, just asking? now they aren't all seniors but still the defense should be stout as long as the corners keep progressing the way they have. Who projects at the LB positions? Is Minter going to be the MLB?

How many ways can one fan base bring up the Flynn-Perrilloux argument again?

How can you be so sure of this considering he's been anything but consistent?

Just think if we would have gotten Bridgewater w/ Rivers.

JJ was never a dual threat QB, even though they tried to make him one. That being said, he isn't much of a pocket passer either.

I can't see Mettenberger not winning the job unless there is some kind of mandate from Miles that JJ starts.

a null threat QB if you will
like 2010

JJ says bring in whomever you want he's going to beat them out, he's the man.

Hopefully Krags can help JJ be a better QB. Sometimes it takes the right coach to get the most out of a player. I saw Norm Chow do it with Carson Palmer, and Al Borges do it with Jason Cambell.

I think the mere fact that Mett, a JUCO All- American is now here, will force Jefferson to improve to get the playing time he did last season-- that is the idea of competition among players for the position. We'll see how his fragile ego fares with a new OC with a clean slate and a top notch QB like Mett on hand.
