You're so off
1. NU will never get Tressell he's done coaching plus he can remold rebuild Youngstown
2. The last 2 programs he's left has ended up on probation
3. Tress is not a NU type

Wisconsin certainly isn't surrounded by recruiting hotbeds, and it has been a very good program for more than a decade.
And Nebraska can certainly win at a Wisconsin level if that will make you happy. But it won't.
I totally get why NU fans are mad at Pelini. 9-10 wins mean nothing at an elite program if you are losing all your tough games and not winning championships. But NU is not an elite or even great program anymore and it has few built in advantages to be able to pick itself back up like Alabama, USC, etc have.

Oh, well, if you say so!

That is really the only reason why I do not want him here in Lincoln. Yea he wins, but at what cost?

Honestly I think they'll end up with McElwain, and I don't think he'll have much success.
Good OC who at least has some HC experience and success. He understands the fans and boosters at traditional programs from his time at Alabama, and he is from the West and likes it out there. But yea he is a 9-10 win ceiling coach. I don't know of anyone available who can consistently win 11-12 at NU though.

4. That whole show-cause penalty on Tressel until 2016.

Sorry, but I disagree. Osborne has also voiced support for Tressel. He wouldn't be able to coach the first 5 games, but if they hire him before this year's bowl game, that would count as the bowl game he's not allowed to coach.

He isn't coming to NU.

Well, a big name is what they need to return to prominence. Some no-name isn't going to fare well with recruiting to Lincoln. That's why Tressel, RichRod, and Richt are my Top 3 choices. Do I think we'll get any of them? No.
Only up-and-comer I'd be happy with is Frost.

Nebraska roots. He was born in Omaha, and a lot of his family still lives there. He also knows what it takes to compete vs. SEC-level talent. High character guy, as well. Actually, he'd probably be my #1 choice.

Plus, there's a waiver process to help lessen the penalties, IIRC.

I don't see the problem with it. Nebraska has never won anything with Pelini at the helm. 9-3 is the equivalent of 8-4 which is the exact definition of mediocrity. Nebraska has lost the luster it had in the 90's, but with their facilities, stadium, money, etc. there is no way they shouldn't dominate their division.
This is what I fear LSU becoming in the next 5 years, our problem is people will be OK with it.

Man, are they really ready to take the next step? I can understand firing him even with a good track record if they think they should be contending for conference titles and national championships... but I just don't see where they are, at all.
Posted on 11/30/14 at 1:49 pm to Smalls
They have to appeal and show just cause why he was only one they could hire.
It is a death match and they would hammer you for anything

There's no excuse for them not to be contending for conference championships on a regular basis. None. This is a proud program with a lot of historical success. Becoming content with mediocrity is not something I ever want to see from our fan base. Eichorst made the right move.

His record against ranked opponents was putrid. I don't think its a terrible firing. You can't just pad your record on cupcakes.

The you don't know what mediocre means:
quote:
of only moderate quality; not very good.
Nebraska has been ranked every year in the final poll in Pelini's tenure. They aren't elite, but their recruiting footprint is terrible, and there's only so much you can win without elite talent. They are most definitely NOT mediocre.
Mediocre was Callahan, who had two winning seasons in four years, never won 10 games, but never won less than 5. THAT'S mediocrity.
Pelini pulled them out of the morass, and he's getting canned because you can't build a team from partial qualifiers anymore. Nebraska is delusional about where they stand in the college football universe. The 1980s are never coming back. And I hate to tell you: this IS what success looks like for 90% of programs. Welcome to that 90%.
Posted on 11/30/14 at 2:18 pm to Baloo
Meh, I'd rather strive to be in the Top 10%. With the right coach, they can achieve it, I have no doubt.
