I thought USC was stupid not to hire Coach O. And a friend of mine is an LSU fan and called him a great coach.

Notre Dame has plenty of 4-star talent, but BK's offensive game planning and philosophy hamstrings the offense. As I said, maybe things will be different in Baton Rouge.

It’s all about recruiting, it’s why he came here. Thanks for the honest insight.

We ARE grateful for how Kelly turned the program around. We just feel there was another level he wasn't capable of - or at least didn't - reach.

Yea you’re not here to troll but you throw something out there like this it’s “common”? When is the last time an elite coach has made a move period? Not sure how you can say it’s common considering the Kelly and Riley moves are pretty unprecedented, you’re a shitty troll and your fans are butthurt about Kelly leaving. you are likely in for what we experienced: Playing down to the competition and not being competitive against the Alabamas and Georgias, or any other team that is legit.

Exactly why I didn’t want him.

The whole “different breed of athlete” is silly because Alabama and Georgia have the same.

Not contradictory. Proven winner but plays down to the competition and until 2017 would frequently lose to inferior competition (South Florida, Duke, Tulsa, Syracuse, Northwestern, etc.). Still has to figure out how to compete against the big boys, much less win.

Thanks Mark. We are appreciative of your assessment and certainly glad to take Brian Kelly off your hands.

I hope Coach freeman can sustain and build upon what Coach Kelly did there. Although he’d only been there one year, I’ve learned in recent days that he was the real reason for all the success your program has had and I’m quite impressed. To get you guys into championship games and the playoffs while coaching at other schools is an accomplishment that is surely unrivaled by any other in the history of football.

Same for the 29 year old offensive coordinator.

Very impressive. Now that Coach Kelly is out the way, those guys can really shine.

Best.

I gave you an assessment as someone who has watched every game of BK's tenure at Notre Dame. As I said, unless fundamentally changes some things, this is what you're getting. All of us have been puzzled by his ditching the offense he ran at Cincinnati in favor of safe, conservative.

Here my assessment - we don’t give a rat arse about your assessment. You sound like a teen who just got dumped for the first time with this pros and cons list

Sorry, accidentally hit the submit button early. I actually lived in Pensacola a long time, have friends in Louisiana and my wife and I would visit New Orleans. Admire y'all's passion (yes, I'm actually a Southerner and an ND fan!).

It’s called coaching. You utilize your strengths and adjust your identities according to the talent you have. You lack qb play, your known for big strong olines, along with big physical dlines. Kelly turns you into a smash mouth football team to hide your qbs limitations and plays into his teams strengths and it’s Kelly’s fault? You don’t get the athletes to run a spread aggressive offense. Can you imagine how bad you would have been to watch Ian Fukin Book running the spread? Lol. Kelly isn’t your problem. Your problem is South Bend. What you’re doing is called “coping and grieving”. You lost the hottest girlfriend of your life now you’re coming up with all the ways where she didn’t live up to your standards meanwhile all along your pretty chubby, douchey, with a below avg Dong. The truth of the matter is Kelly left for a better job. I really like freeman and think he’ll do fine there. National champion he will not be but not another coach that will win championships there imo.

Exactly

Why did he change his offense from cincy to Notre dame? Bc he recognized the personnel he had and could recruit probably fit better in a different style

In fact I’m pretty sure he said something along the lines of believing in scheming around your personnel rather than being married to a certain system in one of his first interviews the other day

He basically said he will do what gives his team the best chance to win

Sounds smart

What grade are you in?

His comments about a coach he’s followed much closer than any of us don’t fit your purple colored glasses?

Hey guys, my final post and then I'm out. Yes, we were hurt Kelly left. Yes, most of us were happy he was our coach. The way he rebooted everything after the disastrous 2016 season (we called it Kelly 2.0) was impressive.

Notre Dame had plenty of talent under Kelly. Boatloads of 4-star talent and a great developer. But as I said, I've seen about every play of every game under Kelly - you haven't. You haven't seen the number of frequent times ND only scored 27 points against some team that gave up 58 to powerhouses such as Western Kentucky, 48 to Duke, etc. The constant 3-and-outs. Happened all the time.

As I also pointed out, he has many plusses. But his offensive philosophy will drive you nuts, unless he changes or let's your new O-coordinator have more autonomy.

Finally, we all believe we got a rock star in Marcus Freeman. Yeah, he could fail. But if you saw what we see in him every day, you'd see why we're optimistic. Our recruiting took a serious upturn when he came on board, even as well as Kelly did. And I'm sure our two teams will meet soon on the field. Now THAT will be fun.

Good post. If you had your choice, would you have rather BK had stayed at ND, or are you more excited about having Freeman?

No way does ND ever win the big one due to their recruiting limitations, weather in that area, facilities, etc.

As for BK's offense, he'll have way more skill players to work with, and his O-lines are known to be excellent. You'd hope he realize like Saban did and change with the times to take advantage of all the better talent.

As for not being a nice guy, that's not a problem as long as the W's come and he doesn't get steamrolled regularly by Bama.

Some of you are glad Tommy Rees decided not to join him as offensive coordinator. While BK generally leaves the defensive game planning and playcalling to his coordinator, he has a heavy hand in the offense. Make no mistake - Rees may be the coordinator, but BK designed the playbook, does the game planning and, if not calling every specific play, definitely has a strong say in what is called.

We wouldve killed for some of ND’s offensive success in Les Miles years.

- Excellent judge of talent on the recruiting trail. Is amazing at spotting under-recruited and under-rated players.

Stopped reading there.

That statement alone means hes winning at least one NC here. This is LSU, not south bend Indiana. All BK has to do is throw a dead cat out of the window in his office and he'll hit a kid who runs a 4.4 40. Justin Jefferson and his 3 stars say hi.
