After speaking with several sources, here’s the latest I’ve come up with:

- Will Muschamp is currently in the Caribbean with his wife on vacation, according to a source on the Florida end of things. He is expected to be there around a week. This same source believes his agent, Jimmy Sexton, is handling most of the communication on job opportunities and then speaking with Muschamp when needed.

- One source on the Auburn end of things would be surprised if Muschamp ended up there for a few different reasons. First, this source did not think his coaching style and personality would mesh well with Gus Malzahn’s. Secondly, he didn’t think Muschamp would want to be the coordinator for a program running the hurry up offense. For this same reason he didn’t think he would end up at Texas A&M. Thirdly, Auburn would not offer Muschamp the chance to be the head coach there anytime soon, if ever, as Malzahn is not going anywhere. It could still lead to a head coaching opportunity elsewhere, but that may not be as appealing to Muschamp.

- At the same time, this source could not rule out Muschamp ultimately choosing Auburn. He just said he would be “surprised” based on what he knows about Muschamp as a person and a coach.

- Another source close to Muschamp believes he’s in no hurry to make a decision. He believes Muschamp wants to know what all of his options are first, both as a coordinator/assistant head coach and any potential head coaching jobs he might be a fit for that could come open.

- I understand Muschamp’s defensive coaches at Florida are very loyal to him and enjoyed working for him. If given the opportunity, all off them would likely join him at his next stop if the move made sense for both sides.

- A coaching source on the South Carolina end of things does not believe Steve Spurrier’s retirement is imminent based on his conversations with him. That was his opinion only, but this source said he would be very surprised if it happened after this season.

- There are some sources on the South Carolina end of things who are optimistic about the chances of Muschamp ending up in Columbia, but I haven’t heard it from anyone close enough to the situation to run with it. Those kinds of trusted sources have said it continues to be a possibility but nothing further than that yet.

- I fully believe Spurrier had Muschamp in mind when he made this afternoon's comments to The State. A 2-3 year commitment was exactly what Muschamp was looking for, as it would give him enough time to prove himself as the worthy successor and take away the possibility of forcing him to move his family twice in one year.
