I can't see him making the jump from Texas to Auburn unless there is some serious money involved.

I'm not saying it's a better job or even if he should take it. Just that it's a chance to get in now. Mack still has some tread left on those tires. I don't see him hanging it up anytime soon.

Who knows how long WM would have to wait to actually get the gig at Texas.

I think it's a smart move for Muschamp...prob $2-3 million per year - he can't wait on Mack to retire - it won't happen for 5-10 years. The guy has a chance to make money - gotta take it.

Doesn't seem that hard to me. Even if Mack only stays 5 more years, that is $5 million+ extra coins in the Muschamp account, and if he does reasonably well in a tough spot, UT would be forced to throw a higher salary at him to get him back to Austin than if he just stays and steps. He would still be a hot commodity at 42. The risk is his short former boss beats his arse for those 5 years, along with the rest of the SEC shark tank and he is viewed as tainted goods. High risk, high reward.

That said, I still think Turner Gill would have scared me (and shorty) a lot more.

Dude, Mack Brown could be at Texas for 10+ more years. I thought it was completely irrational to announce he would be head coach in waiting when Brown is nowhere near retirement. Bobby Bowden, yeah, Mack Brown, no. This is a great move for Muschamp if true.

IF TRUE...
you can not blame him.
Brown could be there for 10yrs, let's say a a diff between 900,000 to 2,000,000 (low guess) =
10 X 1,100,000 = 11,000,000,diff... hard to wait on that...you never know about your health and other situations.

Roughneck says no way he leaves the mighty UT for the plains! I mean, why would he leave the promise of being head coach for actuallly being one?

I agree, a promise is better.

Muschamp did learn from our former coach, so I won't be shocked if his word means nothing. Sounds like he is another coach who will go to the highest bidder.

Might as well do away with contracts.

So much for him staying at UT as 'coach in waiting'.

Like a few other said, Mack could still coach a long time. If this is true, Muschamp just doesn't want to wait. Can't really blame him can you?

If McFarland drops Texas from his shortlist, I'm all for it. Get out of there as quick as you can Muschamp!

Texas job>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Auburn

The Texas head coaching job is, but he's not their head coach. He's their defensive coordinator. Nobody loves Austin more than me, but being a HC at Auburn is a better job than DC at UT.
