Coaches look at support, recruiting area, etc....but they NEVER think "what if I flop there". They ALL think they can win (given enough support and facilities).

You're not answering the question. Didn't he know jobs would become open when he accepted Texas' offer to become coach in waiting? He knew many jobs would come open while waiting for Brown to retire.

Still...if true that's just another school (Texas) looking for a good DC...the competition is heating up.

bullshite. This is complete stupidity and saban cock sucking. A year ago all I heard was how Saban had lost at least 4-5 games in 6 out of 12 years as a head coach, blah blah. Now, what, he is the greatest coach in the history of sports? Somebody needs to get their head out of their arse and figure out which it is. I assume he is the reason AU is doomed correct? If this is true, LSU is gonna be fuct too so might as well shut down the program.

Let me give some dumbfricks here a history lesson:

Last AU coaching changes:

1. Pat Dye. Comes in when Bama is at the height of their powers. A year removed from back to back titles on Jan 2, 1980. Dye beats Bama two years later and builds a mini dynasty with 3 straight SEC titles and 4 in the 80's. Was two fluke plays away (Bo going the wrong way on the goal line and Tifen's 52 yarder from 8 straight wins over the gumps).

2. Terry Bowden. Gene Stallings has just won the national championship and is realing off double digit win seasons yearly. Bowden wins 20 straight games and AU is successful from when he starts until the late 90's when his total lack of recruiting takes its toll.

3. Tubs. We know what he did. Bama was on probabation, but Tubs got busy winning against every team in the SEC.

Now, Bama is definitely in a good position now, but the last three AU coaches had pretty long tenures and pretty good success through all types of situations and seemed pretty damn happy at AU making a lot of money. The situation that most closely resembles today is a great coach in Gene Stallings who AU was able to compete against well even with a subpar head coach who could not recruit AT ALL. A good HC will be successful at AU. Period.

Agreed. He had been there a long time. There was obviously some issues. Hell, they were meeting Petrino in secret while Tubbs was still there a few years ago.

BTW, they paid him a shite ton of money, he gets 5.1 MILLION dollars to go away, and he will get another job when he wants it.

it is not as though AU was a "graveyard" for Tubbs.

I am sure that Muschamp would be thrilled with that treatment. I know I would not say "ook what happened to Tubbs. I'd better stay clear of that."

Exactly. I think it is pretty safe to say AU was extremely good for Tubs. 10 years. Consistently one of the highest paid coaches in the league. Now considered one of the better coaches in the country. And a $5 million parting gift on top everything else.
