Mullens to UF and Sarkisian to UT were considered outstanding hires.

I sure as hell thought so. Seriously, two programs without limits hired very talented coaches…who shite their pants.

That being said…only Riley would cause a “splash” as an outstanding hire… I don’t really like any of the candidates being named as possibilities, including Riley (zero wins vs Top 10)

Conclusion, …I don’t really have one.

I'm not aware of UF ever having a coach named Mullens.

I don't remember this being the case.

For all the people that scream "don't hire a G5 coach" or "don't hire a coordinator" there really is no tried and true method for hiring a head coach.

The truth is, most coaches ultimately fail.

It's hard to maintain success at the highest levels.

People's worst fears about Mullen turned out to be true, he didn't want to recruit at the level required at UF.

Herman left Texas a mess. I'd be willing to give Sark another year to right the ship there. In his one full year recruiting at USC he had the #2 class.

Mullens always ran a gimmick offense. I always thought that Florida didn't need that. Defensively, he was completely hands off.

I understood the hire because of the history with Florida. And, I thought Florida itself was a good enough program to make it work.

I don't think the Sarkisian story has been told yet. But, Texas is looking like a program that is hugely overrated. That may a multi-year rebuild.

You’ve convinced me. LSU should not hire a new coach to replace the old one. Just gonna let the players coach themselves.

Ummm no.

Even at UT there were a lot of people saying why? His record outside of Bama talent was not good.

I’m convinced that neither Herman or Sark are the problem at UTx.

"Good hires' are known years down the road, not immediately.
