He's been recruiting Mississippi really hard since he got there. It's strange, lots of Mississippi kids are considering Cal.
Dykes knows where the athletes are. He's pulled a couple from Arkansas too. He's getting his DL, WR and LB from the deep south. There's good secondary prospects in Cali and decent enough OL out west too.
Minnesota is another school that's scooping up overlooked talent from the south.

Dykes is a very good young coach, he'll do big things at Cal.

People from other parts of the country can try their narrative of "talent is everywhere" but even the best two schools in the Midwest know they have to win prospects from the South.
Harbaugh didn't hold a satellite camp in Alabama because it's a nice vacation spot, he wanted to get some of those Southerners to come on over and talk about Michigan. Ohio State's quarterback is from Texas, running back is from St. Louis (a stretch that it's the South but eh), star linebacker and star safety are from Georgia, top defensive end is from Florida and their top prospect for next year is from Florida.

If Mizzou can't get Herman or a Richt, and I don't think they can, then I think Bobo would suit them nicely and scare the shite out of me. Will probably go Odom if I had to guess.

Odom may be open to staying at Mizzou as a DC even if he's not selected now.
Slight hijack:
Memphis told Odom they are moving on and are "no longer considering him for the head coaching position." They were willing to wait on him to named or eliminated from the Mizzou HC search, but in their meeting today they were told that he might be considering DC jobs too. Memphis team basically shut the meeting down and left pretty pissed. My guess is if he told Memphis he's all in, they would hire him if they haven't progressed too far with another coach.
*Not trying to be 'my sources' bro but I just happen know the right person to know when it comes to this particular coaching search

I don't think the Memphis/Odom thing is quite dead.

Fast twitch big guys are hard to come by in the West.
They tend to make pretty good D-linemen and to a lesser extent O-linemen. There are just more of them
here in the Southeast.

If I lived in Mississippi and had a chance to attend school at Berkeley for free and play football in the Pac-12, I'd sign right away.

Minnesota is recruiting the same third level La talent level that Tulane is recruiting under CJ. Which is okay- they're just looking for some speed. By the same token I wish Tulane would recruit Midwest for some OL.
Only 2 FBS privates up there. That and warm weather would appeal to some players.
Cal has an open offer to Tulane's pro style qb commit from Mississippi.

I'm not sure what you think you proved? Of course Saban recruits nationally, he pulled a guard out of Minnesota, a quarterback from Oklahoma, a punter from Colorado and always gets a guy or two from California. The majority of his best players come from the South, though. Mark Ingram is probably the exception, there, as I believe he's from Michigan.

Yeah, the kids they're getting are choosing between Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, MTSU and Cal. I can't blame them. I'm just saying it's very odd seeing so many kids from Mississippi going to Cal, it's random on the surface. They've yet to pull a kid that Ole Miss or State want, but that could come as they increase their footprint in the state.

Good god please let this happen

Barry Odom is so obvious, but it doesn't look like they will make the smart call on handing him the keys.

So if Harbaugh recruits nationally its because the midwest is low on talent but Saban recruits nationally the south still has the best players
