He has $0 buyout for any other team except Michigan. So I don't know if you can call it a reduced buyout.

I'm definitely not saying that Les is playing LSU trying to get a raise, but I wouldn't be surprised if the end result of all this is that he does end up with another raise.
I'm just saying... Les is used to being in the top 5 highest paid head coaches, and right now he's not. On the whole, head coach salaries are still climbing quickly in all of college football. Ole Miss now pays Hugh Freeze the same amount we pay Les Miles, and they had to pass the hat to pay their $25,000 fine for storming the field.
Does Les deserve a raise? My gut says no, but it's all about what the market dictates.

The "off the record" comment which was "on the record" is Miles at his very most disingenuous moment.
What it seems to me he was trying to do is deflect other schools from taking his talent in recruiting and focus his team and their bowl game.
Miles will bolt LSU the moment he is offered the Michigan job, in my judgment.
What he did not say is "Take me out of the running, I am staying at LSU...period".
After ten years of doublespeak and manipulation of the media, we cannot trust him with his last statement. He can always say that nothing was on the table at the time.
Remember the words of Nick Saban and even Paul Dietzel who said "I will never leave LSU" and two days later went to Army as HC.
Do you believe him when he says there has been no contact with Michigan by him or any representatives of his or Michigan?
I just don't buy it!

Les Miles will not be going to Meechigam cause he is LSU Tiger now and will retire here. Any one who thinks he will leave don't know the Mad Hatter.

LSU should not give les a raise to keep him this time. He's proven to be average and this year was certainly not one of his better coaching performances.

Wow! I just read through all of this thread, and I'm astounded at the vitriol of the anti-Miles crowd.
I understand that we're 8-4 this year and on-track to either go 8-5 like the 2008 team or 9-4 like the 2009 team. But, we're coming off a four year run of 10+ win seasons, and 2014 was universally understood to be a "down" year. Even with a team decimated by the NFL draft, no quarterback, and playing in the hardest division of the hardest conference, we ended the season ranked in the top 25, we played the likely national champion (Alabama) to a tie in regulation, and we are loaded with returning starters fully capable of making 2015 the third time in 11 seasons that we'll play for the national championship.
In the meantime, we're set for another exemplary recruiting class, and our facilities, record, tradition, stadium, and fanbase are equal or (far) superior to any school in the nation. Les Miles played a vitally important part in the team's success, and he has remained unwavering in his commitment to LSU through 2 prior attempts by Michigan to hire him away. This time around, he has once again emphatically reiterated his desire and commitment to remain here. With all that in mind, I cannot wrap my mind around why some folks (1) think he is leaving LSU, (2) want him to leave LSU, and/or (3) believe the team would survive such a coaching transition unscathed.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss can't pull out its checkbook fast enough to cough up Miles' 4.3 million salary for their 9-3 head coach Hugh Freeze--following his best-ever third place finish in the SEC West. And, Mississippi State is presently negotiating to pay Dan Mullen a similar amount for his sixth-year efforts in leading them to only the second 10-win season in school history. Notably, 2014 marked Mullen's first-ever winning conference record, and he is 22-26 in the conference over his 6 years at the helm. By comparison, Les Miles has only posted 1 losing season in the SEC (2008 at 3-5), and he is 56–24 all-time in the conference.
