My point is why all the love for Gruden and Del Rio? Neither has exactly set records for wins. Why not someone with a better resume?

I couldn't agree more.

Plus neither has shown ANY INTEREST AT ALL in a college job.

Never have understood the love for Del Rio. Del Rio to LSU would really frustrate me ... talk about a train-wreck waiting to happen IMO.

Sooo glad it didn't happen in 2005. It scares me that it was close to happening tho.

Neither of which was successful in the long run. Again, why the love for either a coach or his style offense that is only average? Neither of whom has any significant record coaching in college. The recruiting aspect makes it an entirely different occupation.

I think JDR's style would suit the college game well. I'm not sure why you'd think he'd be a complete train wreck.

I don't think he'd take it, but a call I'd make would be to Gregg Williams. I would absolutely love having that man as our HC. But he'll likely be getting an NFL gig again soon if he wants it.

I agree, we need a offensive minded coach who has experience as OC to get us out of the clusterfrick offense we have right now.

oh wait...

Now many years has Crowton been at LSU?
What is the w/l % running his offense?
We have already established that Gruden's is barely over .500.
I continue to be mystified as to how he is viewed as such a white knight.
The same is true about Del Rio. Where is the proof that he would perform any better as a college coach as he has done as a professional coach?

I think GW is going to wait on a better situation. He learned last time how rough the NFL can be with no qb. See jimmy clausen

he has such a great record because his players are talented and the D saves his arse, gruden knows how to get it done at the top level after all he did win a super bowl.

He did that. But Les Miles won the college equal to a super bowl. So I don't see how Gruden would be such a major upgrade.

Gruden coached professional players who weren't any good? Then how did he win those games? Is NFL football like professional wrestling?

quote:

the D saves his arse

Did Gruden's teams have good defenses? How is it detrmined whether it was the offense or the defense that saves a coach's arse?

You have yet to convince me that a coach with a record barely better than .500 is such a bargain.

but with the 1st pick he would draft andrew luck giving him the very qb he would need.
