ay, mid January is not ideal, but doesn't the situation somewhat cancel that out? Aren't a great many coaches going to take notice of grade A talent, facilities, venue, fan supoort, fertile recruiting ground, national reputation and tradition and say, "Holy shite, one of the premier jobs in college football is open?"

If LSU can get the guy it wants. If it actually goes on a search, the pool of candidates will be thinned. We are about 3 1/2 weeks from NSD.

that is if they really don't have a policy where they don't contact a coach before his season is over

Rich Rod was hired in December of 2007 over 2 weeks before WV's bowl game. He did not coach in the game.

Moeller and Carr were both promoted from within so the AD is full of shite.

RR could be hired in Dec because Carr announced he was going to retire in Nov(Before TUOS game IIRC).

EDIT - To be more specific Carr announced publicly. He wanted to retire after the 06 season, but was asked back for another season to help push donations for stadium 230M upgrade. They knew going in that 07 was it for him.

Suddenly, January doesn't mean a whole lot.

Les is not going to UM. This is someone Les may recommend. Les was Cam's best man and I think Cam would do well at UM. Ravens hopefully out of the playoffs after this weekend!

Hopefully all this dragging out of the process means Miles is staying. This would be the most fricked up thing by an AD since Auburn started interviewing people behind Tubberville's back in '03.

I don't think a coaching change is ever smooth. This is typical, IMO. Both parties waited until after the last game was played. Now they are facing off to see if there is agreement.

It just seems too long because everone on this board, myself included, has hit refresh about 95,000 times this week.
That says more about you than it does about the Michigan AD.

Why was this post necessary? Does it serve any useful purpose? Or are you just practicing being a prick?

Could be Les not wanting to take the attention from PP tomorrow and the coaches' conference on Tuesday.

Its probably partly that and partly about not wanting to take any attention from college football's biggest game

Agree w/militarycut....u can't blame Les for agreeing to talk w/Michigan. Any of us would do the same. But, he knows going in that he was Michigan's second choice. That would piss me off if I was him. Still, he's got to talk to Michigan, if for nothing else, to leverage his position with Aleva. It's just business, guys. If he goes, his replace gets a Top 5 team in 2011 and all of CFB knows it.

Mid January sucks for replacing a coach. Your list of available candidates shrinks.

That's what we say, but really we've only had to eliminate Muschamp and Golden. And who knows if Golden would have been on the list anyway. And Urban announced pretty early, we were never gonna get Big Will in that case. Whovever we get is going to already have a job--I'm not sure this timing thing(relative to available coaches, not recruits) is as big a deal as we're making it.

It will be a bigger deal for the schools hiring THEIR replacements, and their replacements' replacements and so on.
