The 1997 Crimson Tide finished 4-7, their worst record in 40 years.

This despite having a future NFL HC as OC (Bruce Arians), a future two-time NC HC (Dabo Swinney) and a future SEC HC (Jeremy Pruitt) on staff, and a future NFL HC at QB (Freddie Kitchens).

Who'd have thunk it.

Well, it’s just as important to learn what NOT to do.

Arians had two separate stints at Bama. First under Bear Bryant. Then under DuBose. Would love to get his compare and contrast on that

Shows how shitty a HC he really was. All that talent and so many bad seasons.

Future MTV Two-A-Days star and Hoover High Defensive Coordinator is a bigger accomplishment IMO.

Because Dubose was terrible.

He lost to Kentucky for the first time in 75 years that season.

It actually shows that Bama is just another college football program when they don't have a GOAT caliber coach on the sidelines. Had Rich Rod not reneged Bama might still be sucking goat balls without Nick.

But Dubose also won a SEC title.

Wasn't Neil Callaway on Dubose's staff at one point? He was a head coach too.

He was the OL coach and co-OC at Alabama from 1997-2000.

I miss Mike DuBose almost as much as I miss Mike Shula.

He was a head coach for a while. I don't even remember why Dubose was chosen as the successor to Stallings.

Fax campaign from the fans. Had to have one of “Bear’s boys”.

Yep. Former DL coach who the Tide fanbase deemed 'one of us'.

Of course he did spend one season (1996) as DC, so there's that...

Just shows Talented players are needed to become a successful coach. Gotta recruit!

Bama's 1998-2000 classes were all top 5 nationally.
