Random, do you see this as possibly a power struggle b/w Orgeron and Alleva? By that I mean, my sense is that Alleva realizes that promoting Ensminger to OC would be a huge mistake for several reasons. Is it conceivable that he would tell Orgeron flat-out he won't approve the hire of Ensminger as OC? And if so, is there an "Orgeron camp" within the LSU decisionmaker authorities that would fire Alleva and stand with Orgeron? Or flip that, would the Alleva-backers use this as a reason to fire Orgeron and promote Aranda to HC?

This possibility is premised on the belief that Alleva does not support promoting Ensminger and will not approve it... perhaps a faulty premise.

Everything I've heard from people somewhat close to the situation, even going back to last year, is that Ensminger really doesn't want the OC job. He's older and comfortable in his role as TE coach and doesn't want the added pressure/responsibility of being the play caller. He filled in last season because Ogeron, in his quest to do whatever he thought would put him in the good graces of the fanbase/administration, fired Cameron immediately upon taking the interim job.

I suspect O does want Ensminger as the OC because above all O wants someone who will be subordinate and not challenge O if he wants to have input on the offense. The assistant coaches aren't stupid. They understand Ogeron has no ability to step in and dictate plays, philosophy, or the offensive approach. I suspect that's what caused the rift between he and Canada. O, who has no background in offense, or playcalling on either side of the ball whatsover, tried to come in a dictate to Canada how to run his offense. No one respects his input on anything other than recruiting and motivating. The moment he accepts that and how lucky he is to even have the LSU job in the first place is the moment he may start to turn into a decent coach.

The rumors about Canada being out have been circulating since before the bowl game. The fact that there is still a deafening silence from the athletic department is what has people reminded of our coaching search after Miles where we seemed to quickly jump on the fall back.

I agree.

Ensminger is not and Never was “plan A”. That is a tRant false narrative pushed by nega-Tigers that needs to stop.

Ensminger is O's plan A and has been since the end of the season.

He specifically mentioned him as a replacement after the A&M game. In a press conference. That doesn't happen by accident. That was thought out. He wasn't up there cracking a joke at a press conference.

How could you feel like this is a major fork and then go consider Steve Ensminger knowing the PR fallout?

But he’s basically an O mouth piece, my gut feeling is they want the appearance of a search and when those publicly don’t work out, you “begrudgingly” turn to to Ensminger. Sort of like the charade of our head coach search

Yep, this was my first thought upon reading the OP

In O’s eyes it’s a safe pick. He knows him very well.

What offense is SE going to run? I think this would be important to know.

He should know that nepotism is not a way to build a championship football team.

This is exactly the fricking problem with this whole ordeal.

Evidently, O & Canada couldn't get along, so now Canada's gone, despite the high potential for offensive success. Now O sees Ensminger as a "safe pick" because they do get along, lack of historical success as an OC be damned. If this is really what we're basing the hiring & firing off of, then we really are fricked.

Well TigerbaitLawyer is saying it’s Ensminger and Sullivan as of 22 minutes ago on Twitter.

No need to hire an OC immediately if it means settling for someone on staff. I don't think the remaining recruiting targets for 2018 will be affected one way or another, and there are still months left before practice begins.

Are you a big Ol'Baw? That takes some powerful stuff my friend. I think O can take you even after a kick in the nads. And he'd probably just drink all the gumbo you try to pour on him.

O is not a play caller. The rift IMO had to do with another assistant coach coming to O saying "Hey, my guys need a break" now is that other assistant Aranda with his defense needing the offense to go 7min mode as opposed to 3min mode or Grimes with the lineman shifts. It just seems more plausible than O saying run this play and not this play.

And that shows you how dumb O is. Making that hire will cause him to lose his job when all competent LSU fans raise hell. I wouldn’t call that safe.

Coach O is with it,
and he's my Ace,
so I grabbed Joe Alleva and I punched him in the face
