Anyone else see it this way? If you are going to can your coach, you are going to want to start the search and hiring process as soon as possible. You want to be first in the pecking order and you want to resettle things in recruiting as soon as possible. I don't see the point of waiting around for the bowl. If the Michigan AD was going to fire Rich Rod he would have already done so after that arse kicking from Ohio State. But he didn't. Now he is saying after the bowl. To me, that means Rich Rod has another year.

we are all wondering if that buyout reduction clause after the new year has anything to do with it.

Interesting. Any confirmation on a buyout reduction clause?

If this is a financial issue — Rodriguez would receive a $4 million buyout ahead of January versus $2.5 after Jan. 1 — then there are infinitely better ways to save $1.5 million, which is about one-half or less of a new head coach's salary for one year.

don't shoot just a question/thought. Maybe they are waiting till after the first so that $1.5 million they save they can call a wash and use to buy out Miles if he shows interest. Isn't Miles personal buyout only $1.5 million...<interesting>

If this was the case then UM would be already contacting candidates. Maybe that explains Miles strange behavior after Arky? And also why BP says they are talking about a contract extension? I don't see any real way Harbaugh goes back to UM. He will go to the NFL IMO. I thought he might end up in Dallas, but maybe Garrett gets that gig now.

Maybe the coach or coaches they are wanting all have big bowl games coming up!

I don't believe a win/lose in the bowl means anything. That performance against Ohio State counts more than any bowl performance. The buyout reduction after new year is plausible, however. Still, I think $1.5M to Michigan would be peanuts.

I honestly thought he would get fired right after the Ohio State game. But the AD's statement makes me think he will not get fired at all.

Exactly what I was thinking. I just find it funny how Miles is getting a new contract and the Michigan AD stating nothing will be done until after the bowl game.

I have to agree. How will he get Harbaugh or Miles (both Bo/Michigan Men) to leave their jobs at that point, or worse, pass on other opportunities (Harbaugh is on the short list for Dallas and Minnesota - should Saban jump for either of those, Harbaugh will be high on Bama's list) waiting until after the Bowl? If guys who played and/or coached under Bo, at Michigan should't be reasonably be expected to do this, how can anybody else?

Unless he's going to fire RichRod to replace him with Lloyd Carr as a 1-year interim and conduct a 10 month search culminating with a new Michigan coach for the 2012 season (and I just typed it and I think that's crazy)?

Zook stayed for Florida's bowl game before he was canned, didn't he? And they made out alright with his replacement.

To me, it says they don't want to force Stanford's hand in matching Michigan's offer before the bowl game.
