They've got 1 commit right now. There is no way they finish top 20.

So I guess the only question now is how will Baylor fans react when he wins his first game 10-3?

This will be his biggest challenge. Texas isn't exactly teeming with front 7 talent these days and most of it goes out of state now to Alabama/LSU/OSU

They have one recruit so far. Saban couldn't get them in the top 20.

In a vacuum it's a good hire but I don't think it's a good fit

Does he have any Texas ties? Will he be able to recruit Texas? Will he run the pro style offense he ran at Temple or try to stick with a spread?

I think he would have been better suited for a Big 10 or ACC school.

Weird that they went with someone with such a different offensive style than Briles. I know they both like to run the ball but that's about it.

It is, most definitely, a home run hire for Baylor.

Maybe in the long term but not in the short term

The more you look at this the more you see Charlie Strong to Texas version 2.0

A no nonsense defense first guy without many Texas ties coming in to clean up a program that needs it.

Problem is Texas when Strong took over was in better shape than Baylor will be.

Almost guaranteed there will be 2 losing seasons to start off. How patient will Baylor fans be? How long will the give him? If they treat him like Texas fans treated Charlie Strong, Matt Rhule just signed his death warrant. The only way he will succeed is if Baylor fans are patient and let him lay the ground work. If they want immediate results and to pick up where they left off under Briles in the Top 25 and competing foe Big 12 titles, Rhule is screwed.

Guess the myth of him only leaving temple for penn state is toast.

he has to get a goood enough job for the next 4-5 years to show he can take on penn state when Franklin leaves.

I was thinking the same thing when i read that.. Baylor now has an offensive identity.. They really needed to get a guy that could fill that role... Think Helfrich would have been better..

I don't think Baylor fans are in any position to be impatient with the shite storm around that program right now

Dude we sucked dick for like 25 years, essentially my entire lifetime. If we go 6-6 or 5-7 a couple of seasons I won't lose any sleep.

i read somewhere that if you take out the Briles tenure, Baylor has averaged 4 wins per year since WW2. lol

People forget how bad Baylor was.

I think I'm the only one who thinks this is a head-scratcher.

I've got that Baylor needed a coach and wanted an up-and-comer. Got it.

But this seems like an odd fit. Dude didn't sign a single kid from Texas while at Temple - not one. He might be able to get one or two kids from Texas to sign when he hires a HS coach or two for his staff, but outside of a few JUCO's and an east coast kid or two that he brings with him I see the 2017 recruiting class as done for and he starts from scratch here on out. A Philly accent may not go over well in Killeen or Beaumont.

That, and Baylor said they wanted an offensive minded coach for building a brand. Rhule is a defensive coach.

Anderson would have been a better hire, IMHO. But I'm glad the Bears can put this episode behind them. I'm sure they opened up the Brinks vault and backed the truck up to Rhule's house. Temple needs to go after Golden or Schiano - they could continue to build on what's there.

What's so hard to understand?

They were lucky to find a decent coach to take the job with the impending shite storm that could rain down on them.

At best, Rhule is walking into a team that has 1 commit at this point. Doesn't exactly bode well for the future.
