I don't remember Ole Miss offensive lines being anything special. UGA has some monster recruits, but as a coach, I don't think Luke will do what Pittman did.

It’s going to be a downgrade when you lose the best in the business but still a solid hire.

100% true. He was one of the few position coaches i knew by name because "Fire Matt Luke" was a thing before he was HC

Kind of appropriate given recent events.

Think Georgia went from an A to a C+ here.

I went and looked back at the OM board and went a few years back. Found multiple "Fire Matt Luke" threads. And came across this post that made me laugh

From 10/17/15
"HITLER WOULD BE A BETTER O-LINE COACH THAN MATT LUKE"

"Then next summer send that doughboy to go work with some NFL OL coaches or shadow the best Collegiate OL coaches because something ain't working"

"I'm so tired of hearing the excuses for Matt Luke. I really think some people here must be family members or friends of his. The only thing he's done is get his nephew a spot"

"Matt Luke can suck my dick in hell"

"Our O lineman are charmin soft. There's an element to them that is difficult to quantify but something you can see. They are just frickin soft, like Matt Luke's fat marshmallow looking fat fricking face."

"MattLuke4Heisman"

"As long as the new OC brings an O Line coach I'm cool with it."

So when we say we wanted him fired as OL we arent just now saying it now. It was literally all over our boards while he was OL Coach

Rest of SEC's reaction to UGa swapping Pittman for Luke:

We’ll see. Arkansas and UT fans laughed at the Chaney but when he had talent to work with at UGA he was pretty good. Hopefully Luke is the same for us.

There have been a pretty large number of Ole Miss fans who have indicated that Luke was a liability as an OL coach. And, believe it or not, he was a better head coach.

Given that the OL is Georgia's strongest selling point, I expected them to make a better hire.

Who would you have expected?

Nobody specific. I haven't spent any time really researching it.

But, given that this news broke Sat/Sun, and the news apparently "blindsided" Georgia, this seems to be a very quick decision. Add to that, the track record of Luke as OL coach is less than stellar.

It's a strange decision IMO. Honestly, the only thing that looks positive is the fact that he was head coach (effectively interim) at Ole Miss during sanctions.

I don't have to tell you that Georgia had been selling Pittman non-stop in recruiting. What's the pitch for Luke? It will be pretty easily countered.

Fans are usually very rational and informed about the performance of coaches.

All valid points. I doubt they were blindsided because the rumors were floating around that Arkansas was interested but they probably doubted it would happen.

As I said in a post above, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt since he didn’t have the talent that he will have at UGA. Same as Chaney at Arkansas.

I'm guessing because Sam held the Asst. HC title they were also looking for someone with some experience in that area. Matt fills that role really well but in terms of a pure OL coach, it does feel like they could have done better.
