re: Mack Brown to Resign | The Search For His Replacement

(quote) Again, this is because people have requested any Bama "sources" or "insiders" be posted here as well.
Tommy Deas from TideSports.com (Bama's Rivals Site):
quote:
In reference to Saban and an enhanced deal at Alabama.
Nothing, really, at least not internally -- to use a Saban term, "relative to" how this has gone before. Saban has had raises and restructuring of his contract more than once at UA.
What's different is that it has become public. Texas (or to be specific a Texas booster -- not the AD, a booster) tried to feel Saban out last year around this time by calling Sexton. The year before (I think that's right), it was, apparently, the Cleveland Browns doing the same thing.
But it didn't play out in public.
It took some months after the season for all the i's to be dotted and t's crossed, but there wasn't all this anxiety because it was behind the curtain.
Because Texas' previous approach to Sexton (and, again, a Texas booster's approach, not the actual university) became public knowledge, there is a lot of light on this now.
Texas will possibly, probably or maybe be looking for a new head coach. Or maybe not. But because it has been reported that Mack Brown -- apparently unbeknownst to him at the time it was reported -- is on his way out, this is a high-profile thing.
We will see how it plays out, and on what timetable it plays out, but there is now public pressure and public expectation for Saban to reach some kind of accord on a contract enhancement now rather than later. And that is really all that is different here. (quote)
that actually makes more sense than anything i have read yet.

My jimmies aren't rustled at all. This shite just amazes the frick out of me. The gullibility of some of these folks that want so bad for it to happen they will believe anything they are told.

All he's doing at this point is providing the same product at substantially higher prices.

It's a market-driven salary. Not really that hard to understand.
Look at all the coaches around the nation that get raises/extensions every year.

Sexton? Really? In Vancouver? Yesterday?

I'm calling bs on that. I find it hard to believe his contract would be structured so radically different from his current one that it takes "months" to dot the i's and cross the t's. All they needed to do was cross out 5.5 mil per year and write the new amount and he signs.

The "market value" approach really is retarded. You really think Saban and Sexton would go through all this shite just to see what Texas is going to offer? And then go back to Bama and say "here's the market value, gotta match that."
That's just beyond unnecessary. And how would Bama know that Texas really offered what Sexton says they did? Sexton could walk in and say "Uhhhhh, Texas offered $20 million per year plus a share of Schlitterbahn and a Wonka style chocolate factory complete with Oompa Loompas. Can you match that?"

You should probably read what I was responding to, because that makes no sense in the context of the conversation I was having.

Yeah. I don't think contracts are that simple.

That plane was in Vancouver the day before. I have more of a life than to track people's airplanes all over the country so if that's irrelevant then I apologize for not being enough of a stalking sicko to know the ins and outs of a celebrity mouth breather.

I agree about the market dictating rates and demand, but there's a fundamental difference between your employer offering you a raise for superior performance and having your agent rake them over the coals in a protracted, agonizing and embarrassing bidding war.
The point many of us have made us that if Saban wanted more money, all he had to do is ask for it. That didn't happen.

I was just talking about that approach in general. I've seen a lot of Bama fans claiming this is all just to find out what Saban's market value is. There's no need to do that, Saban could name his price with Bama regardless of what Texas would offer.
