Wow, don't know how I missed this, but Red McCombs referred to Case McCoy as a half gimp yesterday. What a cack.

Yeah. I don't think contracts are that simple.

They're really not that complicated either. It's not like some smuck has to completely re-write an entirely new 2,000 page contract out of thin air when a coach wants a raise.
quote:

t took some months after the season for all the i's to be dotted and t's crossed

I'm calling bs on that. I find it hard to believe his contract would be structured so radically different from his current one that it takes "months" to dot the i's and cross the t's. All they needed to do was cross out 5.5 mil per year and write the new amount and he signs.

You better beleedat. Seriously though, if Saban has that kind of debt and UT boosters were willing to help him with it, I could never blame him for leaving. He'd be stupid not to take that kind of offer. Still sounds like a huge amount of money for a college football coach.

If this is turned out to be true, I'd root against us during the Saban-era, b/c the melt entertainment would bring me more enjoyment than another national title. I can see the headlines.... UT boosters buy up 40 mil of Saban's debt for 4-8 season.

fix yourself a highball and chill out.

Awesome idea!

I thought 25M came from the 49.5% of the houston apt complex he owns

I may be mistaken, but I think those are tied into each other somehow. Maybe they were both just Spinosa deals or something. I can't remember anymore.

just waiting for it all to be official.

Yep

Lol, no way he gets essentially a 40 mil signing bonus.
I don't believe that for a second. Absolutely no way that happened.
quote:

I think he retires Sunday afternoon.

Agreed. Sunday seems to be the logical deadline if he's going to retire quietly.

Saban to Texas by Wed.

I'm 50/50 whether Saban comes right now. If Mack is retained in some type of "special" role, it drops to 1%. If he's completely gone, I like our chances.
Wasn't the UTPD told to prepare for a "VIP" tonight? Anyone got anything new on this? I would assume it's just be someone Mack is bringing in for the banquet if true, I'm just curious if the "insiders" were right.

Got a new scoop
quote:
yes, was told that UT meltdown if Mack stays would dwarf any Bama meltdown if Saban were to leave.

I absolutely believe that. I said it before and I'll say it again, getting rid of Mack is more infinitely more important than acquiring Saban.

I think the internet needs a sarcasm font. I propose the inverse of italics. Just have the letters lean the other direction.

Genius! :rotflmao:

One rumor from some Beleedat guy on shaggybevo saying it's a done deal for $12 million a year for Saban.

Not that I believe that figure, but man I would be pissed if that figure turned out to be true.

Serious question, at what point does each side bow out of the bidding war? For me, it's 8 mil and even that's ridiculous. I think it's definitely going to be at least 7 mil though regardless of which school he's at next year.
quote:

if he receives a huge raise from this.

I can guarantee you Saban is getting a huge raise and yes, you can use me as a source.
quote:

What happens when he stays at Bama and loses two or three games and gets his arse kicked in the Iron Bowl again? Bet he hates to think about that scenario...especially if Bama and the boosters ponied up big cash to keep him. At that point, better guard the Statue......

That's actually a very compelling point. He'll get 3-4 years of latitude at Texas.
quote:

OBTW...no longer think NS is going to Texas...Gus maybe?

I'd be extremly happy with that
quote:

I might also say his interest in the USC position may have had something to do with motivating A&M to make the pot a little sweeter for him to stay.

Yeah, that's definitely where the main threat was coming from, though I think they were smart enough to foresee Mack's demise a little further down the road. I hope if Saban falls through we go after Sumlin hard just to frick with Aggie
quote:

What about Mack stays, puts them in the final four next year (yeah, I know, but play along), but gets CRUSHED by their opponent in the first round.

He gone?

I'll play along even though you just made me swallow a vurp. No
quote:

Of all the hypotheticals, Texas stealing A&M's coach would be the biggest meltdown of all

That would be epic
