does shannon terry know anything about nick's personal finances?

Yeah, in the end, I do think it comes down to personal.

A move to TX right now would be seen by most to be a step down, and really hard to fathom, especially for a life long Bama fan, but personally, I think AJ's success at QB prolonged his intended stay.

His M.O. has been 5 years.

People bring his wife up all the time, but in reality, and I have this on impeccable authority, his relationship is best described as Bill and Hillary Clinton.

I think most Bama fans are hanging on his words to recruits. But, when Saban left LSU, this exact scenario played out with our recruits. He is Bama paid, and I think he legitimately would like to leave them in the best position possible if and when he does leave.

It's not like Mack isn't out there doing the same thing.

most see it as a huge step up.. especially if it lets his wife be close to that grand baby..

It would be a strange move. Texas is not an elite program if we're actually talking about history on the field.

Largely equivalent history/tradition, slightly inferior in football glory, but vastly superior in most other areas.

Again, why would Saban tell Bama people he was planning to leave? LSU folks didn't know for sure until the day of. He has experience in making these moves...

Shannon Terry also has connections within the agent world, and nobody there seriously thinks Saban will leave.

IMO what I think is happening: A few years ago when Saban first came to Bama, Bama received a lot of flack for paying Saban 4 million dollars. Now Bama wants to give Saban a raise. Instead of just giving him whatever, they are going to let UTx set the market rate for how much he is worth. Then, when Bama does give him his raise, we can show that it was a fair amount to keep our head coach. The media backlash would be much less significant if we were just paying Saban fair market price. That, and I think Saban would rather have the time to meet with Battle and discuss the specifics of the contract rather than simply sign it and leave it on his desk. This week has been packed with in home recruiting visits, as this is the last week before the dead period. I think Saban wants to get as much work done recruiting as humanly possible. Next week he will start doing other things, preparing for the bowl game, contract renegotiation, etc. I think he just sees it right now as unnecessary clutter. JMO

at worst it's a lateral move.. and people make lateral moves to help set up their futures and be closer to family all the time. i wouldn't find it strange at all.

i'd find it strange if he jumped to the NFL again or if he retired. i think he's done at bama in 3-4 years either way.. same with Les.

Programs who have won the same number of NC's as Texas, last 40 fricking years:

Colorado
Georgia Tech
Clemson
BYU

Elite programs that are and always have been the little brother to their biggest rival:

?????

Better town, better school, more salary, more prestige, more media attention, better state, more influence, better recruiting ground, better fans, better financial opportunities, better political/power opportunities, better legacy opportunities...

You are one sad individual. You have spent the better part of a week completely obsessing over two schools you aren't even a fan of.

I thought Paul said he had an extension on his desk?

I'm not saying I don't disagree that will happen. I just think it may not be 100% about money. Nick has shown he is not satisfied with status quo. He's a changer. Plus, I think a NC at 3 schools puts him as best college coach ever. And I think that means something to him.

However, I still say 30/70 go/stay

Texas has a strong history, but they haven't done jack shite in 40 years. One title but you would think they would have more by listening to them.

I think AJ's success at QB prolonged his intended stay.

This. When he took this job I called a few of the coaches that he is friends with and I am too too and ask their take. They said the Nick would stay in Bama 4-5 years and probably win a couple of Nattys and be gone. That was before he was officially hired.

He has no starting QB, will be picked third in the west next year (Sorry bama fans but Auburn returns everyone) and has won 3 natty's. If he doesn't leave now he never will.
