Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds says he's committed to keeping football coach Mack Brown for as long as Brown wants to stay.

Texas regents are scheduled Thursday to consider a four-year contract extension to keep the 60-year-old Brown at Texas at least until 2020.

"I think we are where we were two years before the national championship," Dodds told Schad. "We have good coaches and good players but we're young. We need to get older but I saw some really great things this year."

Consuming the blood of the innocent helps keep him young. Either that or he has gotten the blow back from some of the "hide tanning" rants he periodically lays on his players and has turned himself to leather.

Just BS Propaganda by MB, DD,and UT, to sell "strength and stability" to recruits, as Stoops has his brother back in the fold, ATM now selling SEC membership, and other SEC interlopers seek Tejas talent.

Old Man Mack can't last that long..not even with his lazy GM-styled HC'ing of a program.

Deloser is an idiot. 2 years before their national championship they had gone 6 straight years in which they had won 9 or more games.

Right now, they've gone two years in which they won a combined 13 games.

Is Dodds becoming the newest Al Davis/Jerry Jones?

If Texas agrees to this then they are pretty dumb imo. Brown has been very successful at Texas, but hasn't done much recently. He has earned a few more years, but to lock him in for 8 years is kind of long.

New contract does not contain a pay raise... extends current contract by four years... and most important, contains a $3.5 million buyout clause (previous contract had no buyout).

If he wins, it's worth it. If he loses, it's $3.5 million and hit the road.

Won't come to that, but all the same you're right. $3.5 million is nothing to the university.

This is just a stability show, Mack will either step down and into the AD office or into a broadcast job in a season or two. Meanwhile recruits can be told, "I'm not going anywhere, I just signed a contract extension."

Im glad that they are keeping Mack. I just dont agree with firing a coach that has given them 10+ win seasons for 9 years in a row with a BCSNC and also a BCSNC appearance. Sure, the past couple of years have been disappointing compared to the 2000's but he has done a lot of good for that program and it would be an insult to his accomplishments to fire him for a couple less than satisfying seasons.
