Coaches throw their own names out there to get leverage with their current jobs as well.
Jimbo and Herman are homerun hires.
I doubt Coach O was ever really considered by the AD - just the low IQ fans.
Fedora, Gundy types are likely on the tier 2 list.
Holgorsen types likely tier 3 which would be 5-6+ coaches deep into the list.

I think it's funny that ppl who really know little about football, or athletic admin, immediately dismiss a potential candidate. Personally, my immediate reaction to Holgorsen is negative, b/c I think he looks like Frasier Crane, and seemed like a dick when LSU played him in 2011. But am I willing to let folks who know a lot more about football than me, do their jobs and interview candidates? Absolutely. No doubt he' s an offensive mind.
