How is his record not relevant?

Lovie was a questionable hire to begin with. Not sure he should have been there in the first place

Eh he was a big name, especially in the state of Illinois. The program when he got here desperately needed someone that would bring stabilty and spark the alumni's interest. He did that to an extent but he just couldn't get the players to ever be more than a close loss.

Lovie did a great job at that shitty program. Lovie needed a Mike Locksley on his staff like Zook had to bring in some studs.

I wouldn't go that far. He lucked into a few transfers that helped him get to a bowl game and then a year later it was back to square one.

Lucked my arse. Lovie did a good job at one of the worst programs in college football. Transfers or not you have to get the players there.

It is unheard of to release a statement without thanking a coach for his service.

and you don't list records. you say "unfortunately results aren't there", or something like that.

The only reason I can think of is because they want to show the reason he was fired in the statement to avoid the backlash of firing an African American coach

Any backlash would've come from people who likely haven't watched a minute of Illinois football, but sadly, this reasoning is highly plausible.

Lovie probably would've gotten another year had he shown anything on the recruiting trail. The AD's comment about "future outlook" suggests he realized that was never going to happen at this point.

How dare they state facts related to the decision they made!

Not one sentence thanked lovie for his service.

They thanked him for his service by paying him millions of dollars. I think he’ll be just fine without the pleasantries.
