It was kind of an issue few years back, Kizer declared early for the draft, Kelly wasn't a big fan and made some public comments that straight forwardly said Kizer wasn't quite ready and had things to work on still, he'd benefit from staying at ND another year. Media ran silly with it and made Kelly an a-hole.

Hindsight, Kelly was on the money about the situation. I guess expecting Coach kelly to be brutally honest with situations and not just always give coach speak is going to be very refreshing and maybe at times tough to digest and sort through.

Here's brief article about it.

Hopefully he can help more seniors stay and stop the "opt out" culture

at some point, when you are giving good advice to players, whether it be leave or stay but it's for the correct reasons... you build a culture of credibility with the players and program.

LSU is gonna lose some players.

This modern generation is used to being coddled. Kelly is a hard arse.

The players that have no chest or spine will hit the transfer portal. It's gonna be a bigger rebuild than most think, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It's taken the culture years to get where it's at right now, and it won't be fixed overnight.

The attrition could be painful, but it will pay off in the end.

I wouldnt be so quick to assume that. The elite coaches tell it how it is, and players love it like it or not

I believe he will bring in a new era of nostalgia and maturity to the program. I for one am excited about his future here.

Like Brady: both had blue as one of their college team colors
Like Cam: both are into fashion trends

Kelly also had a childish temper at times when at CMU and Cincy. Had to be tamed in a bit at ND, wasn’t a good look on the sideline there, understandably. Not knocking the dude to our new Kelly lovers but it will be interesting to see if/when it come back.

To be fair I don’t think Kizer coming back would have made him a success. Possibly get drafted higher but that’s about it.

Didn't Pete Carroll say the same thing about Mark Sanchez?

Exactly. Our biggest problem the past few years is that LSU became soft.
Bama used to say their hardest game of the year wasnt the Iron Bowl but playing LSU!

Say what you will about Les Miles (and Im sure you will) but he demanded tough-ness and physicality...
