why LSU football was down for so many years.

Some of you don't get it. As Evil Twin says, you hire the damned resume. We are the number one team in the country. If there is not a PROVEN record of success and some championships in the background, we should not even look at the coach.

Some pro coaches are suggested on this board despite the fact they have never won anything in the NFL. What exactly has Del Rio done that makes him so special? He has not been a terribly successful coach but for his lack of success we are going to reward him with the top program in the country? I don't think so.

Some are pushing Croom. Why? I like Croom alot. Great character. But his record, well, sucks. There is a reason he was a position coach in the NFL for so long. His record at MSU sucks. He is beating so called SEC powers like Bama and Auburn when they are having down years. He has not been a good recruiter (Bower and Ogeron have outrecruited him on a regular basis). He has a losing record in the SEC. Hmmm..didn't Dinardo? and look how that turned out. WHY do you hire to be a coach of hte top program someone like Croom that has a LOSING record?

Others are suggesting assistants that have never been head coaches. We are the number one team, not an internship for a brand new head coach. How many coordinators succeed when promoted straight to head coach at a major program besides Stoops? Spurrier, Erickson, Jimmy Johnson, Miles, Saban, Stallings, etc were all head coaches at other programs.

Use Bama as an example. The only coaches with success since bear was Stallings and Francione. Previous head coach experience. Shula, Dubose were assistants. They fared miserably. Auburn hires Tuberville. He was coach at Ole Miss.

Some of you don't have it in your heads that we are the top program in the country and need to act like it. You want dominance? Then you copy Miami: Schnellenberger, Johnson, Erikson. They kept hiring WINNING head coaches. The promote an assistant, guess what? he loses. You copy Florida: Hire Spurrier and Meyer, proven winners, NOT Zook, who was an experiment.

You also hire coaches that have a commitment to strong defenses. You don't win championships without them. You damn sure can't win the SEC until you have one. The other defenses are too damn good and when they do shut down your offense, you are going to need a defense to beat them.

You want to do it the joe dean way, then expect joe dean results. Its a good thing some on this board have nothing to do with picking coaches. We would be right back in the middle or bottom of the SEC.

I agree. I think we should take this opportunity to swing for the fences. I thought we should have done it when Saban left, but we didn't. Now that we have proof in the form of Miles that Saban did not make LSU, it's an even better opportunity. You don't hand over the keys to the Ferrari to someone with a learner's permit.

I like Dantonio. I'd like him more if he had some NFL experience.

I'm not sure how are fans would like him since he's a defensive guy and I don't think he runs a wide open/exciting offense.

good question.

If looking at SEC coaches:
Spurrier
Tuberville

Pac 10
Telford
Erickson won't leave ASU this soon.

Big 12
no one really. Stoops won't leave OU for here. TT's coach is a gimmick coach. not for the SEC. Hawkins I've always liked. Strong on offense and defense and win wherever he goes, which looks very good. Guys that win at all levels of their career tend to continue on that path.

ACC:
maybe Tommy Bowden is worth a look but he's done nothing to impress me. He has been there for a while now.

Big 10
no one really. aside from Michigan, OSU, and Wisconsin, there are no other real comparable programs right now. Zook, no way.

Big East
Rodriquez but I think he is in love with WV as he went there. Has a good deal with a weak conference and strong shot at BCS bowls every year. I'd tell him to stay.

C USA
Bower? No. He is staying at USM and since Nix left, his team has slipped.

NFL

I like Cowher but we discussed him earlier.

Chow? Hates to recruit. There is a reason he has not been a head coach yet as smart as he is.

Jim Mora Jr. was a bust at ATL.

Gruden could be a good choice. No chance of Shanahan. He'd be great but I don't see him leaving Denver.

so probably my short list would be Tedford, Cowher, Davis, TT, SOS, Gruden. Make it clear to whoever hired that Moffett stays as well.

I'd take Croom over Bowden. Clemson underachieves every year.

I wouldn't take either one of them. I'd rather hire a top notch AA coach than those two.

I like Tedford the best of those named above.

We might be able to steal Lou Tepper away from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

What if Bill Cowher says he would come, but Moffitt is a deal-breaker?

"What if Bill Cowher says he would come, but Moffitt is a deal-breaker?"

Then no deal. Moffitt is one of the top reasons why we are currently so successful.

I think Cowher has enough sense to know that and would try to hang on to him.

You are selling Del Rio short here. His team is in playoff position despite the fact that they are in the toughest division in the NFL.

He hasn't won anything, but the Colts have had lock down on that division. Not to mention that he's had to work with Byron, fricking, Leftwich as his starting QB up until this year.

the only real shot we have on that list is cowher, and that's a long shot

SOS is going to TAMU and he's too old anyway

Gruden? you're joking

TT could fit, but the fanbase wouldn't accept him

Tedford? Baton Rouge and the SEC isn't his style

yeah it is called he's asian and ran into racist administrators at BYU

is the NFL CFB?

how much success did saban have at miami? carroll in new york? etc

he's a badass NFL coach. easily top 10 in the NFL

he has a history of solid teams and he is very proven as a great Xs and Os guy on defense

he's also very personable and energetic

he's essentially a better coaching version of pete carroll, who happens to run the #1 program in CFB

What about Petersen at Boise State? Just throwing his name out there to see the reaction.

Also on Del Rio. He has ties to the LSU program since his daughter attends here, his wife went here too. Also Cowher>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Moffett
