I’ve identified a very specific set of guidelines in selecting our head coach. His first directive from me will be to create a culture of excellence and character in every facet of our football program in order to compete at a championship level every year. He must have the highest standards of integrity and work ethic LSU fans have come to expect. He must be a skilled and relentless recruiter, attracting the most gifted student-athletes to our university while instilling pride and confidence in parents who entrust their children to our program. He must be able to motivate our players to perform at the highest level, and to hold them accountable to certain standards of behavior both on and off the field. He must be committed to continuing a tradition defined by character and integrity. He must have the instinct to adapt to changes in the game of college football, allowing LSU to compete for championships every year. Finally, he must be an accomplished leader of the young men who will rely on him for strength and guidance and from whom they will learn valuable lessons that will have a lasting impact on their lives. I’m very confident we will hire a man possessing all of these traits to be the head coach of our beloved Fighting Tigers. We are excited about Saturday’s game against Florida and hope to see you all there. As always, we welcome your comments at athletics@lsu.edu. Unfortunately, we cannot answer every e-mail we receive, but please be assured they are all read. Happy Thanksgiving and Geaux Tigers! Joe Alleva Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics

Unfortunately to me, sounds like he's describing yawyaw.

Maybe, but here's where you run into a brick wall on that. Bebe doesn't have ANY accomplishments to his name.

That "adapting to change" part might still be more interesting than you think.

That was pretty generic.

Then he had better think long and hard about the potential consequences of his actions, because it could be his last stand.

Jesus, this was unnecessary. Unfortunately, you're right. Sounds like the same traits people pump Orgeron for. It's also a list different from what he gave Rabalais at the beginning of the season.

Good Lord... Sounds like they're taking the cheap way out. With Strong likely keeping his job, we need to decide between Herman or Jimbo first... Make them say no.

I read it twice hoping I overlooked the part where he wrote, "must have beaten two top 5 teams this year" but i was disappointed to not see it in his criteria.

Sounds like a bunch of generic phrases that could literally fit any coach.

So, your "track record" is 1 name long?

And, the LSU BB program is not NEARLY as coveted and accomplished as the LSU football program.

Those attributes listed in that letter should be common to ANY coach that LSU would hire.

It does not lead anywhere that one's own mind is not already going.

It is confirmation bias to see "AHA!" in that letter for any candidate.

This can relate to just about any coach in all of college football.

quote:

He must be a skilled and relentless recruiter, attracting the most gifted student-athletes to our university while instilling pride and confidence in parents who entrust their children to our program.

All coaches who's names have been thrown around meet this criteria.

quote:

He must be able to motivate our players to perform at the highest level, and to hold them accountable to certain standards of behavior both on and off the field. He must be committed to continuing a tradition defined by character and integrity.

Again, all of them meet this criteria.

quote:

He must have the instinct to adapt to changes in the game of college football, allowing LSU to compete for championships every year.

THIS ONE TELLS ALL. O has admitted to wanting to remain a pro-style offensive team. Fisher and Herman bring a different view on offense. They both also excel at in-game adjustments. This one is not O.

quote:

Finally, he must be an accomplished leader of the young men who will rely on him for strength and guidance and from whom they will learn valuable lessons that will have a lasting impact on their lives.

Also not O. He had a serious discipline problem at Ole Miss. Also, being a leader insinuates leading to victory. O is not accomplished at this just because he's done well as an interim.

Yep. Wasn't a previous Aleva stated requirement "a proven and experienced head coach"? Sounds like he might be greasing the skids for O. This would be what everyone expects from him but prays otherwise. He probably needs to pack his bags at the same time.

Half the sentences start with "he," you know what else starts with it? Herman.

Setting the stage for the announcement. It's like when someone compares their own skills and experience against the details of a job description---when Joe makes the announcement, he'll cite the new HC's experience with xyz to the "instinct to adapt to changes in the game of college football" requirement, for example.

The Thanksgiving reference means you won't hear from him again on this topic until after that date (so, the weekend or Monday following, then).

Otherwise, it's a Rorschach-like test (I can read Tom Herman into this as easily as O).
