That could be true, but if Lane is adamant that he wants to coach this team through the playoffs and is devoting all his time and efforts to winning a national championship with this team, OM can either let him or tell him to leave immediately. He gets at least part of the high road and saves some face. OM almost certainly sends him away (which he knows) but at least he can say it wasn't his decision.
His tweet tonight about "packing the stadium" for the Egg Bowl is very smart. It shows he is committed to THIS team.

The story is strange. A HC in the middle of a playoff chase is out the week of their rival game visiting another school in same conference about possibly leaving his current school. You can’t make up a story this strange.
