I don't think many people thought Trent Johnson was a horrible hire.

Yeah, he was a great hire, on paper. And Johnny Jones was kind of a Coach O hire. BBQ buddies, hometown hero, the works.

How?

Lets all remember that Alleva doesn't have full control over a lot of his decisions. there are other people that have input and most likely a budget to work with before he goes off and makes a hire.
You really think he would have made the last two basketball hires if he'd been given a "money is no object" stance from his bosses?
No. This school has never made basketball a priority and it shows on the court.

All the former players wanted Johnny Jones...

On paper Trent Johnson was an excellent hire. That's not Alleva's fault

Remember, Jeremy Foley hired Ron Zook and Will Muschamp

College basketball is a completely different animal. Being tight with local AAU coaches and recruiting is much more important than actual X and O coaching. At LSU, you need a certain group of program people and boosters to want you or you won't be considered.

Look I'm no fan of Joe. But Trent should've been a slam dunk hire on paper. And lets no kid ourselves and think Joe Dean would've been able to say no to the powers that be about Johnny.

Let's all remember, Jeremy Foley hired both Ron Zook and Will Muschamp and he's regarded nationally as a great Athletic Director. Granted we all know he's an a-hole.. but even good AD's make bad hires. Everyone here fricking loves Skip Bertman, but he hired Les Miles and picked Smoke Laval to be his replacement when he retired.
