Isn't he coaching at his alma mater? Why would he leave unless the money is drastically better? I don't know enough about him other than he seems to have sustained success with his given responsibility, so I would be happy with the hire. Seems like a stretch that he would leave the same position at his alma mater.

Well, he was interested in Texas...I'd imagine if you pay him $800k plus, he'd leave. Could easily leverage a national title at Texas or LSU into a head coaching gig in very short order.

FWIW, though...I'm with ya...I think Chryst is a far-fetched hire. I'd certainly gauge interest if I was Miles, but I just don't see that hire happenin.Like others, though, I'm very excited to see that Miles was interested in Harsin.

this thread should live until the hire is made.

Great call.

I say we do our best to get Chryst with the understanding he will be here for 2 years and let Billy G work with him during that tenure. Then he will have raised his stock for a better head coaching job by being OC at an elite SEC school and a successful Big 10 program. When he leaves, make Billy G OC. Kind of an OC in waiting. That way Billy gets a couple years under his belt working with an excellent pro-style coordinator. Win/Win

with all these jobs being filled (UConn and Maryland), Leach may be a viable option.

I very seriously doubt it would be good for him to sit out another football season. He needs to get back in the game, even if it is as OC for a year or two.

I didn't realize he was also at Oregon State. That makes him look even better

Agreed. I'm pretty sure that was around the time that Mike Hass won the Biletnikoff award, Steven Jackson got drafted and Derek Anderson went off on the PAC-10.

I am guessing that he will be head coach of Wisconsin one day if his career continues to progress...

He'll be a head coach somewhere else really soon.

No matter who our OC would be, if our offense was very successful while they were here, then they will start getting HC offers

That is the nature of the beast and if he was only here for a couple of years before leaving to take a HC job, then that probably means we had very highly ranked offenses and played in some BCS Bowls

I'll take that

very true. this is why as the head coach, les should establish his style of play and stick with it. then the top OC that call that style of offense will want to come to LSU because they know success equals a HC gig.
