for not going after Art Briles or at least making more of an effort.

It's hilarious to see you guys act all high and mighty because he coaches at Baylor. IMO, one of the best coaches in the game and doing what he can with what he has at his disposal.

Since he's gotten to Baylor, Briles has now.......remember, like you guys like to say......it's BAYLOR......brought a Heisman winner to Baylor, has won 2 straight bowls vs. decent competition, has won 25 games in the last 3 years.....

whereas Baylor was the doormat of the Big XII before his arrival.

I'll just leave this here as well....

quote:

Briles led the 2011 Baylor team in its most successful season since the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996. With Baylor's win in the 2011 Valero Alamo Bowl game, Briles led the Bears to a 10–3 record; the 10 wins tied for the most by a Baylor team in school history with the 1980 team. The 2011 season opened at home against 14-ranked TCU. In a nationally televised game, Baylor won a dramatic 50–48 decision. It was Baylor's first win over a ranked opponent since 2004. In Big 12 Conference play the Bears would accumulate a 6–3 record, eclipsing their previous high of 4 conference wins in 2010. The Bears finished a perfect 7–0 at Floyd Casey Stadium, including a 45–38 upset victory over the #5 Oklahoma Sooners and a 48–24 victory over #22 Texas. The victory over Oklahoma was the first for the Bears, having lost the previous 20 meetings between the two schools. In 2011, Baylor also defeated Texas Tech for the first time since 1995 (snapping a 15 game losing streak to the Red Raiders). Following the conclusion of the 2011 regular season, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, whom Briles was instrumental in recruiting and developing, was awarded the 77th annual Heisman Trophy.[12]

Briles has won 17 Big 12 conference games in his five years as head coach. Baylor had won only 11 Big 12 conference games in the 12 seasons preceding his arrival.

Does anyone know how much Briles is getting paid? I know he just got a raise and an extension to go along with a new stadium.

Maybe he's getting paid enough to stick around?

I said a better effort.

I'll bump some threads where Aubbie and Arkansas fans scoffed at even considering Briles.

so laugh at auburn/arky fans that scoffed at briles.

I was under the impression auburn made an effort he said thanks but i'm good here.

with that said i don't think he's that amazing of a coach. He's good no doubt, but nothing to lose sleep over.

No doubt it's disheartening that Arkansas didn't land a coach whose team gave up an average of over 50 points per game in their 5 losses this year. It’s especially troublesome when I reflect back to that game where the Bears held West Virginia to a paltry 70 points. Indeed, it keeps me up at night thinking about what might have been. Laugh away, buffoon.

Baylor has gone to great lenghts over the last decade to improve their athletic department performance... they've had significant success in mens & womens basketball, football, and baseball... they're also improving their facilities.

Briles is a texas guy through-n-through... I'm not sure why he'd leave a program he's built, playing in a conference that's relatively wide open, who's paying in damn good money for a place like Auburn or Arkansas....

IMO, the Baylor of today is not the Baylor we've all remember from growing up.... they're a legitimate program.

Arkansas and Tennessee both reached out to him as well.

IMHO, he is one of the best coaches in college football. Started out as a high school coach in Texas. Won a couple of state championships at Stephensville High School, hired by Leach at Texas Tech as an assistant coach, and has been pretty successful in two universities in Texas that are not the easiest places to win at. Good ball coach who worked his way up the ranks, by proving himself everywhere he has been!

Seriously? The guy is barely a .500 coach. 6-3 is his best record in the Big 12. Auburn just won the BCS (with the guy they are now bringing back). Arky got a guy that has repeatdly won the Big 10

This thread does not deliver.

Most Arkansas fans I know of don't think Briles isn't good enough to coach at Arkansas, we simply wanted a more defensive minded coach.

And we got one.

They don't play any defense at Baylor. And if Auburn was going to hire a spread coach (on an actual legitimate list), I'd rather it be Gus Malzahn over Art Briles. Malzahn runs a smash-mouth spread offense with a power running game that sets up the passing game.

There's no doubt he's a good coach, though. I'd just rather not have him at Auburn.

Briles would change his offense towards his players if he were to coach in the SEC

and no shite they don't play defense at baylor.. its baylor. You can't out scheme spread offenses with the talent at baylor

Baylor being Baylor doesn't mean that it's impossible to be good on defense.

You can with superior coaching.

Remember Michigan's defense in 2011 vs how terrible it was in 2010?

Was drinking some beers earlier with a good friend of mine who is a big Hog fan. He agrees, Briles was his first choice. He's mildly upset on the hire.

He's at Baylor!! He gets like 7th pickings in Texas. Guy has done amazing things for Baylor and would love to have him as my coach pretty much no matter what was my school. Just hire a good DC
