So Bama was grasping the last few hours. They wanted the PAC 10 runner up coach over the PAC 10 champ coach who beat runner up twice. Is Lanning that much better than Deboer?

He's certainly a better recruiter than Deboer. He also comes from the Saban/Kirby tree. 10 years younger as well.

Not as much has changed as you may think. Plus, with the transfer portal you still have to keep players once you have them. And with everyone (instead of just Alabama) able to pay players without recrimination now, for a program like Alabama, money could arguably end up making factors OTHER than money even more important, because everyone can funnel money now.

Lanning is a terrible Gameday coach. He made some truly boneheaded decisions against Washington with horrible 4th down calls

Everybody is getting paid now though. Some A LOT. So just because you were good at doing it under the table, doesn’t necessarily make you a hot commodity anymore. It’s a different world. You guys don’t understand
