Almost as hard as having a governor fire your last coach?

Or trying to fire your last coach for cause so you don't owe him the contracted $50mil?

think above probably explains OM’s puzzling statement yesterday. Ole Miss is in an awkward position where they can’t suspend Kiffin or tell him to hit the road. They don’t want to “force him out” and forfeit that $4m. It’s a weird spot for Ole Miss to be in, and they basically have to let Kiffin leave when he chooses to do so. Unfortunately, for them, They can’t force his hand.

How much bonus money will be owed to Kiffin under the terms of his present valid and enforce contract with Ole Miss if the following happen:

1. Ole Miss wins 11 games?

2. Ole Miss makes the SEC championship game?

3. Ole Miss wins the SEC championship game?

4. Ole Miss makes the CFP?

5. Ole Miss makes the quarterfinals of the CFP?

6. Ole Miss makes the semifinals of the CFP?

7. Ole Miss makes the finals of the CFP?

8. Ole Miss wins the championship?

9. How much is the accrued accumulated bonuses that Kiffin has already earned that has not been paid by Ole Miss under the terms of the present contract?

There are mitigating circumstances and amounts to the Kiffin sided buyout.of his Ole Miss contract.

Firing would subject Ole Miss to a buyout, does Kiffin's present contract have a mitigation clause? If so, this is a non-factor if the terms of a new contract exceed the terms of the present contract. However, a firing would send an emotional torpedo through the OM locker room when the team is on the doorstep and place the post-season in jeopardy. The time frame from the end of the season until the play-off games will be 3 to 4 weeks (depending upon CFP seeding) which will give adequate time for an interim to rally the troops.

Suspending Kiffin at this point would not alleviate Ole Miss' bonus obligations and (see emotional torpedo rant above).

You let him coach the Egg Bowl, qualify for the play-offs and earn his bonuses, which in turn mitigate Kiffin sided buyout. Parties part ways.

It is called making the most of a bad situation.

I’ll bet you a cool $100 that when it all shakes out, the attempts to lowball BK will end up being a last ditch save arse attempt by Woodward before he was fired.

Could have been drawn up by Woodward. Could be something legit that we just don’t know about.

Could have been something deemed cause-worthy from the past that wasn’t acted upon and now they’re saying it should have been and we even fired our former AD because it wasn’t. Not sure there’s any kind of statute of limitations on these things.

Could be Landry pushed it in exchange for his blessing on the next contract.

Could be donors agreeing to cover it with the stipulation that everything be attempted to get it down as low as possible first.

So many things it could be. Doesn’t seem to be hurting LSU though. Kinda surprising.

It's an opportunity cost for Ole Miss to fire him before Dec 31. That's $4 million they don't have but is it not worth $4 million to get an extra week of looking for a new coach? I don't understand all of the deadlines for recruiting, portal transfers, raiding other rosters, etc., but a week is a week.

If I'm Ole Miss it's declare. You are our coach or hit the road.

They basically had to give him a “free” out to get him to sign in the first place.

He is owed 36.6 million if fired. He owes them 4 million if he leaves. He has them by the balls and cando whatever he wants to do.

It looks like BK has been officially fired.

They will either settle for a lump sum somewhere less than the full amount, or pay the full amount over 6 years.

Why would they suspend him or fire him?

Why would they want to?…. Because they (fans/admin/staff) want him out.

The point though is…. Even if they want to fire or suspend or whatever to get him out, They can’t. Their hands are tied.

They tried to get him to stay. According to some OM people, that attempt failed and he’s leaving. Hence where we are where we are. They know he’s leaving and it’s an awkward position to be in for OM and it’s admin.

Even if all of that is true and he has told them he’s leaving (none of that has been proven), you think they are keeping him him because of a $4 million buyout?

I’m just speculating here. I have no clue what’s going on, just trying to piece it together based on what’s out there.

I gotcha. I think it’s more likely that they are just trying to keep it together and limit distractions for the next week. It gives them another week to figure out what they are going to do for the playoffs. Their worst case scenario is them firing Kiffin then losing the egg bowl. That could lead to them being left out of the playoff.
