And, of course, a coach's record as a head coach often doesn't say a lot about his abilities as a coordinator.

My thoughts on it all.

It seems more and more as I read the info on the search is that it's very important Miles hires someone who can develop QB's and is in line with Miles' philosophy...i.e. run to set up the pass. We had what I understood to be one of the most creative offensive minds in the game in Crowton and look what happened. Miles has in mind a formula for winning. Does Krag agree with that formula, and can he develop QB's? Oh, and I almost forgot, he has to be able to recruit as well.

You understood wrong. You obviously hadnt followed his numbers at the other schools. The pattern of failure was there and predicted before he ever came.

He's using them. Just need to double-space so there's a gap. Look at the right side and you can see the paragraphs.

I'm not sure many on this board can handle a sensible post like this. Thanks for the insight into what happen. People just don't realize the political nature of being a head coach. Then throw in a coaching following a successful coach and it will always be toxic unless someone from within replaces the previous coach. And even then much of the fan base expects perfection.

Thanks for the review. Its pretty much what I had heard. It seems like I heard that Petrino had left the program a total mess.
I could care less about your paragraphs.

good post Tigercard

A look on the brightside...
1) Don't read too much into his HC days, they don't mean as much because he will be an OC here obviously
2) Things can only get better, it seemed that Crowton's offense just wasn't working, he may be a "wizard" but it wasn't clicking with Miles
3) Krag will have the playmakers here that he could've only dreamt of while at UL
4) Lastly and most important, I hope it is true that he has good character, I also think that's very important to Miles, which I really like.

I really hope our fanbase gives him a chance, I think with our talent and the right system (mainly pro) we can see a increase in offensive success

Most important part of your post. If we can crack the top 10 this season we, at the very least, win the West.

That is a great post. Thanks for the information.

After reading it tho, I'm still confused why LSU would hire Krags as an OC. He has not called plays as an OC in years, and his offenses have regressed his last two at Louisville (at least Crowton's offense seemed to be improving in 2010).

This makes great sense as a position hire (WR or QB), but LSU does not need to hire an OC based on potential.

Yep, for anyone who might even remotedly care, I generally don't indent paragraphs in message boards, etc. because you can't ever tell what the formatting will do to them. What I usually do (and, as OldIowaTiger points out, should have done this time) is separate paragraphs with a double space. (I've just gone back and done that to my original post, and it does make it a little easier to digest.)

The Oregan fans who came and posted here after we hired Crowton away from UO predicted how Crowton would work out for us.

A lot of us gave them grief at the time, but they were exactly right.

When Krags was hired at UL, it was primarily based on his offensive credentials. Out of all the bright young coaches around, he was seen as the one best able to keep the high-powered Petrino offensive machine going, and indeed, he did just that in his first year. (Again, it was the D that sank the team that year.)

I too am somewhat troubled that the offense sputtered in his second and third years, but as I wrote before, I just can't decide how much of that had to do with coaching and how much was due to the dramatic fall off in talent. The fact that Charlie Strong came in with Sanford and got a lot better production out of the same players Krags had the year before is a bit troubling.

On the other hand, the UL O-line was all seniors this year (after two years of being young, inexperienced, and alarmingly thin in depth) and they played as a unit all season, with no serious injuries. As we all know, the quality and experience you have in an O-line has a LOT to do with how successful the skill players are.

Not sure we need a coach who carries a bat, and spreads mouse traps around the locker room to 'motivate' his players...see Krag's bio.
