Mostly true in this case, but there is a reason.

Both auburn guys left and took a pay cut. Gus took a big cut, and took a job many thought was below his standard.

Let's see, Gus went to a school ranked #31 in the nation in one computer ranking. Macelswine went to one ranked #110 in the nation. Arkansas St. was below Gus's standard, but Colorado St. was not below Macelswine's? Then logic wold dictate that he is one whole heck of a lot better coach than Macelswine.

I'm hearing that Smart isn't even interviewing today.

There are 2 interviews today on campus in Hattiesburg and they are
Former OM/UF/USCe DC Tyrone Nix
Current USCe DC Ellis Johnson

First time college head coach at age 60? Rare indeed. Don't see it happening - even though USM was one of his many stops.

GTFO with that Ark St is ranked 31 in the nation in a computer poll ITAT/AE/NTY Spin. As if that makes Ark St some sort of big time program. Unless they were on a SEC teams schedule, you live in Ark and prior to Ole Miss hiring their old coach no one had ever heard of that rinky dink school.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Colorado St is some great school but they sure as hell have been around in conversation nationally in the past.

Also I love the ITAT/AE/NTY phrasing of how it was below Gus's standard. Obviously it wasn't. But that goes back to the boasting(he's not leaving Au unless it's a major program HC position, etc) of Au sheep when Gus "turned down" Vandy last year. Gus may have interviewed for the Vandy job but he sure as hell didn't turn it down, more like he was allowed to withdrawl his name to save face. Plus they hired a coach in Franklin that is/was way more ready to be a HC at an SEC school.

These dick measuring threads on assistants moving on have some of the best, pure gold sheepish, tote the company line comedy posted in them that I've read.

He has been a head coach at both the Citadel and at Gardner-Webb

I never would have figured you to be one to question someone's age

He is older than me and I am retired. Can't imagine why someone that old would be looking for something that new and different. A friend of mine that was once in the college coaching ranks told me that if he didn't get a HC job by the time he was 50, he wouldn't ever.

I'd be glad for Smart. Can't imagine how any coach could tolerate working for a dip like Saban for more than a couple of years.....

He's "tolerated" being with Saban longer than any other assistant. He's going on something like 7-8 years. Kirby is only 35. He's been with Saban most of his professional life.

Nick Saban to the Cowboys? That would be great. It would end my days as a Dallas fan, but I'd love to see Saban out of college football. Hopefully then Miami could pull Petrino.

My dad is 60 and he is still coaching. He coaches because he loves being around the game of basketball and teaching kids the game.

Its hard to describe if you have never coached I guess. Basketball is and has been my dad's life outside of our family. Its very much the same for guys who are career college coaches.

I'm hearing that Smart isn't in the mix

It will be either Blake Anderson or Ellis Johnson the hire will be announced before Southern Miss leaves for Hawaii on Sunday.

Good news for Bama fans. Kirby is going to land us the top 2 players in the entire country next year, Foster and Nkemdiche.
