Hmmm. I wonder if the "Saban to Texas" rumors are more substantial than we thought and his assistants are getting out while they can?

Hmmmm.

Hmmmm.

Sorry. I couldn't resist.

Trolling early today? Theres a big difference in a DC-OC interviewing for a job when asked by a school and putting their resume on Monster.com

The latter being the publics perception of Gus' job search.

Try again Swoopin you're better than that.

I think you have a pretty good point. Have you also noticed how shitty of a job Saban and company have been doing at recruiting? No need to bust their arse recruiting when they will not be there to benefit from the effort.

Coach Sal Sunseri may get some consideration for a certain job opening too.

Biggest differences between our situation and Auburn's.

1. Our coaches are taking a step UP

2. Our recruits won't bail because they wanted to play for Alabama and Saban.

I live in Hattiesburg and work with some USM alums, one of whom played at Southern Miss and they seem to think that Smart isn't a legitimate candidate.

They feel he is just interviewing to prepare him for interviews he will have with bigger programs in the future.

They don't think they have a chance in hell of landing him.

So, you are implying that they intend to make an offer, but Smart won't accept due to it not being what he wants?

Yes, and the fact that Southern Miss isn't going to offer him the $1.2 Million he is asking will make him turn down their offer of $900K. Smart has Jimmy Sexton as an agent so he will turn down Southern's offer and make them play hard ball. And they wont.

The bigger programs will not hire coaches who do not have HC experience in the future (See FL,FSU,TN).

Lots of distraction taking place with a loss of Coordinators/asst coaches. You can't tell me that they won't spend some time looking at their new programs/recruits/hiring of their own asst coaches. As a LSU fan... I like it

Good for him. Probably time Smart to move up to the next level. He's been an understudy to one of the best. He should be ready.

That is my point, all three had zero HC experience. They are now cutting their teeth while cashing some major checks. All three have gone through some growing pains.

I agree. Hate to lose him, but it's a matter of time. Hope he gets a good job he can learn and build on as a head coach.

SO you feel that Smart has legitimate interest in the Southern Miss job?

I kinda feel its a Jimmy Sexton ploy to get Bama to up his salary to over a Million and keep him as the hottest assistant in American, similar to how Auburn did Gus last year.

I'll eat some crow and say "my bad." I had heard Yeldon backed out. Proved to be false.

For now.
