The only way that figure would be correct if it has incentives included to where he “could” earn that much for goals achieved, not flat out here is $17 Million a year Lane no matter what. Now $10-$12 Million a year with the rest coming for wins, SEC Championships, Natty’s, etc etc then yes I could that being correct

I am not saying it is a good idea to pay that much, I believe that it is coming from a place of posturing. Trying to show that we have more than enough $$$ and to get the fractured fanbase to forget all of the transgressions if we land the "Big Fish" of this cycle. It also reeks of desperation and IMO is not a good look.

I wouldnt bring it to the board if I thought it was BS. I know for a fact that they were willing to give Saban $60mil for 3-4 yrs, so this would actually be a discount. Like I said, I dont know the incentives, I dont know if $17mil is if every bonus is maxed out, I just dont know those details. It could work out to be closer to $14-$15 mil per typical season.

You could be 100% right. In that case, The Mad Russian would be my first choice and I am not sure he isnt already if I were asked, but they wont be asking my opinion

The idiots rinning this circus would rather have a mediocre "name" than a young hungry guy like Morris, Golesh, etc... Mediocrity with a name is still mediocrity.

If kiffin says no go hire the best young coach. We know who drinkowitz is and the results will be Kelly esque always losing to bama and the good teams.

Agreed. There’s no way in hell the base is $17m. Nor should it be

I’d guess $13 per year with incentives to get to 17

Put yourself in Lane's shoes the money is going to be the same at Florida and LSU they both proven to be able to produce Heisman Trophy winners and national championships in the past. LSU is an absolute s*** show from an administrative standpoint Florida is not

If true , which is most likely BS, I wouldn’t want LSU paying that much for a coach , even though not a cent would come out of my pocket .

i dont believe you. sounds like fake news.

kirby makes 13.2 mill a year

and has won 2 nattys.

but we are gonna pay 4 mill more for a guy who has won no titles?

jimmy sexton makes it all very believable

If we're seeing programs paying NIL upwards of 40 million next year, why is hard to believe coaches would be making 15 million?

the needle keeps moving because the market is in high demand for talent

it's a trainwreck but it's not hard to believe a couple of billionaires in the end of their life aren't willing to toss around obscene amounts of money to win

HOW BAD WILL IT HURT RECRUITING TO WAIT?

How badly will it hurt long term recruiting if we don't hire a playoff caliber coach?

The governor has publicly said lsu won't be handing out a huge contract to the next coach. He doubled down on this during his national media tour. The BOS are mainly his people. So it's very clear we won't be getting a big name.

You know who doesnt' give a shite what the governor has to say about the hiring of the next LSU coach? The donors that are paying to hire the next LSU coach. That loudmouth dumbass has as much say in who we hire and what we pay him as I do.

I'm not sure Kiffin would want the expectations that would come with that contract.

“Oh hey, your expectations are a bit too much for me to take $17 million a year. I’m sorry, I’ll need to pass on that generational wealth you’re putting on the table. It might make me sad at night, you know, because of expectations.”

Hahaha…too funny. Kiffin is way too confident for that mindset.

If that is the case then it isn’t truly 120/7 it’s a lower number and has incentives.

LSU fired a coach with a 10 yr deal. Now, they going to sign one for 7 yrs. Makes no sense, we heard LSU will not be involved in long term deals.

That would indeed be representative of the blank check someone else mentioned.

I don't know if this is true, but if it is and the contract has a massive buyout, we need to make the buyout equal for both parties.

As for overpaying, frick it...ain't my money.

7 is less than 10. 7 is pretty normal in coaching contracts. 10 is not.
