Lane would crush at a place like LSU/Florida.
He knows it, we all know it.
Is he really willing to retire without having addressed that curiosity? The CFB world wants to see something like that play out.

Hew coached at Tennessee and USC. He may well leave OM, heck he probably does, but he has been at a blue blood before. It's just whether he wants that pressure cooker again or thinks he can be successful at a school like OM, with more realistic expectations (especially with a 9 game SEC schedule). He's been at the top before, just depends on whether that's what he wants again.

Kiffin could become one of all the time greats or greatest at a school like LSU or Florida. The major question is, is that what he wants? He might be ok with just being Ole Miss's greatest coach ever. I just dont see it.

I think this is much more true for middle class kids, (of all races), than hoodrats. But hoodrats are fast.

He'd always be second to Saban, Spurrier, etc. does he want to be the man at an SEC school like Ole Miss, or another Spurrier

I know. He did well at Tennessee.
I don't think he's the same coach that he was at USC.

Not necessarily. He is young enough to catch them or even past them. Definitely Spurrier. Saban obviously a much harder feat. Saban was 52 when he won his first National Championship.

i can't fault Kiffin for USC. he went there under the impression that they wouldn't be hit with violations due to the Carrol Era.

We all know he wasn't the coach he is now until he spent time under Saban and matured some. Those stops may have taught him some lessons that have helped him grow as a Coach.
Every fan base grows tired of the status quo. Hell, some Alabama fans were getting tired of him. The same will happen at Ole Miss if he doesn't take the next step up.
I think his statements are telling. He made similar comments a couple of years ago after a loss to Georgia or maybe Alabama in concerns to the depth disparity.

He probably wants championships and to be somewhere that wins them.

plus, if money bought rosters and championships, as Ole Miss fans claim to think is an advantage for them, then Oregon would have 5+ nattys over the past decade or two.

Well if it's all about winning a title as easily as possible he's definitely going to LSU them.

No 4*/5* high school recruit worth their salt visits Oxford, MS and says, "Yeah, I can see myself here over the Bamas, LSUs, Georgias, and Floridas of the world."

Their rosters have been Top 10 the last 4-5 years and had slipped before that. But, they are definitely there now.
Can Lanning get it done? I think he is really good. Time will tell.
Natty= Talent + Coaching with a mix of good fortune(lack of injuries, good bounces)
OM does not have an advantage and that is proven with the rosters they have.

Really interesting presser. I think it really bothers Lane that Ole Miss has 0 tradition, from the trophy case to the stadium. And in his heart of hearts, he knows he will never win a championship at Ole Miss. It's simply too much violatility year to year whereas at a "blue blood" where you could get kids simply because of the name on the jersey if all other things ($) are equal.

the question used to be, ‘What’s your assistant coaches’ pool?’ Now it’s, ‘What’s your player pool?’”
I think we proved, assistant coaches still matter. We spent alot of money on Blake baker, and although we still struggle at times, hes pulled us out the depths of hell. On the other hand, we went cheap on Sloan and our offense suffered. You still need great assistants and for that, it will cost you.

Depends on if he wants to be like Spurrier and be the first to do that at a school or not.
