of course, i think (not sure) this is the site that claimed Tyke Tolbert would be hired and then had to retract.
so, take it for what it's worth.

A source close to the situation tells NewOrleans.Com/Sports that John Chavis will remain at LSU as defensive coordinator under Les Miles.

If they gave him more than a $50k/year raise, I will be extremely pissed. He's not worth $550k+

Who gives a shite what we pay him. The fact that Richt would put his career (yeah, he has one year) on a killer DC and Chavis is on that list should tell you anti-Chief's something. Chavis is in his mid-fifties and now is the time for him to get some extra coin, and hopefully he got some from us.

Dude, just like Miles, Chavis is trying to make the safe, not Great hire. Chavis is a good not great DC. We improved in some areas definitely, but in reality, we aren't a DOMINANT defense and doubt we'll ever be under Chavis.

Don't care what his raise is as long as Crowton is gone. But considering they're bitching about Crowton's buyout...this can't help.

That's the stupidity of all this. Say we bomb next year (I am hoping this does NOT happen), and we have to let Les go. Why would a new coach come here if they are going to be forced to keep Chavis? They may not agree with his stupid bend don't break mentality.

It then puts LSU in an even bigger financial hole for an above average (not great) DC. Just stupid like Les' contract.

With talent, Chief has had great defenses. His first year teaching his system showed promise, his subsequent years will produce greatness.

He reminds me a lot of a better defensive version of Crowton. Huge holes in his scheme, 1 great year every 3 to 4, and 3 average to bad years in the remaining years of that span.

That's been his MO, particularly since the 2002 season. Their best year defensively for UT's always corresponded to horrible years for their offenses. 2005 and 2008. People kept saying he did it in spite of the offense, but I think he had more to do with the poor offense, then vice versa. Also, UF and LSU had brand new staffs in 2005.

i'd like to see a time of possession breakdown on Chavis' defenses over his history.
