Keeping Orgeron does have some advantages

I've been more of a fan of a home run hire but here is why I think keeping Orgeron over Jimbo could have merit.
1) He is cheaper and could have a lower buyout, meaning that if things went down hill and you had to fire him, it would be much easier to do.
2) There are some up and coming coaches (PJ Fleck, Mike MacIntyre) that could get bigger jobs and prove themselves at a higher level. If one of them emerges as a kingpin then you get him in 3 or 4 years.
3) You can pay your coordinators a very high salary almost same as you would pay Orgeron to keep them for leaving for small schools.
I think because Jimbo isn't your Tier 1 coach (Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh), your essentially stuck with a Tier 2 guy. Even though Jimbo is probably at the top of the Tier 2 list. It would be extremely difficult with a very large buy out, if for some reason he did horrible and we had to fire him.
I know people will down vote me and hate on this post, but I think the right decision is who is easiest to fire when things go south.

Great attitude for the football program moving forward

In addition to that in 3 to 4 years if you have to fire O , saban will be very close to retiring too!

the word cheap should not enter the realm of this discussion.
LSU spares no expense for its football program, from its locker rooms and weight rooms to its stadium improvements. why should it go cheap with its head coach?

Also, if O wins out and we hire anyone else including Jimbo. When something goes bad Everyone will just say should have kept orgeron, and the media will drill LSU again for lying and not giving him a fair shake. We practically told the world if you don't beat bama, your not good enough.

hopefully we don't get what we pay for. cheap doesn't win in cfb.

Also, when you realize by thinking about it logically about the likelyhood of LSU beating bama and winning the SEC is extremely unlikely, even if Saban was the coach due to the talent gap between the teams. So regardless of which coach gets the job , we will more than likely win 10 games a year until Saban retires.
When you see it from those glasses, it's clearly a smarter move to keep Orgeron.
LSU really screwed up by not firing les miles last year

I don't get the argument people are making about O being cheaper. Tell me in what world a fan base would be happy about the organization making a cheap hire? No other fans on this planet would see this as a positive. Not to mention what it says about LSU that they fired Miles, paid him 9 mil to walk only to make a cheap hire. Do you really think that sets the program up as being one of the top programs in college football? No, it makes it look like a Mickey Mouse organization. This is not a positive this is a huge negative.

No one is calling it a cheap hire, I've clearly stated a cheaper hire than Jimbo. This isn't about a coach that is being hired because he is cheaper, it's a good hire that cost significantly less that gives us options to pay assistants even more than we do now.
All I'm saying is if you could theoretically look at what 5 years with Jimbo looks like, and 5 years with Orgeron looks like, you will have 2 very similar outcomes, in both recruiting and output on the field.
If you compare that ratio to the difference in cost, it's simply frivolous to pay Jimbo the amount he is asking for.
In addition to that, if Alleva and the LSU administration/boosters have any integrity and backbone you don't tell someone that you will get a fair opportunity to get the job, then have the man pass with an A-, and hire another coach who would have produced the same results given the same situation. (Jimbo as interim). The recruiting ability is on the same level, and they are both going to keep Aranda.
The only difference with Jimbo, is that you will not need a homerun OC hire, but you will get less discipline within the program. (Do you want Miles Brennan stealing crab legs?)
With Orgeron you will get a much higher disciplined team and a clean program, but your offense will be as good as your offensive coordinator.
Trust me I'm not for Orgeron for headcoach, I think that I would rather have many other proven folks out there, and I don't think being Louisiana should be the criteria for hiring someone. At the same time, you can't tell someone that they will get a fair shake, do what Orgeron did and not have have LSU get a blackeye once again for doing another coach wrong. We don't need to add fuel to the fire.
Like I've said, firing Miles last year would have been the right decision. I was as happy as anyone he was gone after Auburn and have been re-ignited since Orgeron, but I'm also realistic that the guy won the job with his performance unless he loses any of the last 2 games.

The only major concern about Orgeron and hiring a quality offensive coordinator was the stance he took when asked about attacking Alabama like Ole Miss, and he was very adamant that, we won't do what Ole Miss is doing, "I promise you that". When I heard that it showed me he is a stubborn and doesn't have the ability to see that he needs to innovate.
I'm not saying we have to run what Ole Miss is doing, but we sure as hell aren't going to be able to run what USC with Reggie Bush,Lindel White, and Matt Lionheart was able to. When have you seen an offense like this win a championship in the last 10 years?
Maybe Jimbo with Winston but he is a 1 in a life time talent. And if your coaches strategy to hope and pray to recruit once in a life time talents at QB you seriously aren't thinking clearly.

Do you remember why Miles was fired, or was that somehow irrelevant in your mind?

I clearly stated that was a concern about hiring him even if we change our coordinator on offense. I feel he will only target coordinators that align with his vision of running a pro style offense, even though it requires high level personnel to succeed.
The thing is that we are at a talent deficit against Ohio State and Alabama, your not going to beat them running a pro style offense unless you have a Jameis Winston or heisman quality QB, even if Jimbo is the coach. You may get lucky, but if you played OSU/Bama 10 times with the offense that Orgeron loves you would lose 8/10.
The only offensive strategy that has given Saban fits and has even led him to recruit differently to handle it is the "stuff ole miss runs", or the stuff the power spread stuff Urban runs. The key is his inability to see that INNOVATION is consistently needed to maintain on top and compete. I don't care if we switch to a triple option wing T formation, if that is yielded better results all of a sudden you run the triple option.

I seriously can't see how Aleva or any booster could look Orgeron in the eye and tell him that he didn't do a good enough job, because he didn't beat Alabama.
